Sherman Crater

Sherman Crater
This photo was taken from the top of Baker looking down into Sherman Crater with its steam vents. Mount Baker is an active volcano and on a quiet clear day we can sometimes see the steam rising from the south side where this crater is located. There is a bit of steam rising from the vent in this picture and the colors of the rock and the snow are also the result of the volcanic activity. Baker last erupted in the 1800's and it is hard to forget that one is living in the shadow of Baker. On another note, there are two climbers coming up Deming Glacier just over the lip of the crater.
