This is the beach where a boat from the 2011 Japanese tsunami washed ashore. It had belonged to a high school in Rikuzentakata, Japan. High school students in Crescent City cleaned it and eventually raised money to send it back.

At last, an update 5 mo. ago in the comment thread of the video:
"Just saw on NHK Newsline [Japanese media] today that a group of high school students from Rikuzentakata have come to Del Norte High School. They're staying with families in Crescent City who found their boat that washed ashore after the tsunami in 2011 which virtually wiped Rikuzentakata off the map entirely."

Fascinating, I thought. I was able to put that story together by accident. I happened to see a Youtube video about it while watching videos about the 1964 tsunami.

Thank you, Diane ... many in other parts of the US have no experience with this. Those young people ... great ... were they able to travel to Japan and return the boat?

I tried to find out, but had only limited access to their local newspaper. A search didn't turn up anything but the original story. It's not a wealthy community, so I imagine they were unable to raise the thousands of $ they would need for travel - and another several thousand to ship the boat.
