This is the beach where a boat from the 2011 Japanese tsunami washed ashore. It had belonged to a high school in Rikuzentakata, Japan. High school students in Crescent City cleaned it and eventually raised money to send it back.

"Just saw on NHK Newsline [Japanese media] today that a group of high school students from Rikuzentakata have come to Del Norte High School. They're staying with families in Crescent City who found their boat that washed ashore after the tsunami in 2011 which virtually wiped Rikuzentakata off the map entirely."
