Restored caboose, probably used as part of a tourist train at one time.

Alright, since everyone else is commenting on technique... I think its fine. Having been in that spot and experienced the area, I like the authenticity of the site conveyed by the colors/composition.

A tourist train along that line, from Tulelake to Alturas or even Lakeview would be an interesting adventure.

Thanks, Don. Yes, that would be a good concept and I think this caboose is a remnant of one of those. However, the general touring public has little interest in this area's landscape. They prefer crashing waves, verdant forests, raging rivers and a lot of "activities" for their kids. Can't say I blame them.

Honestly, I find my own surroundings beautiful only in certain light and when I have control over where I can stop and walk around.

Well put (re modifying pictures). The only time I do serious modification is when the light was wrong for capturing some detail that I thought really important, and then I acknowledge that I did it. (The HDR photos too often remind me of Thomas Kinkade paintings)
