Thelottviertel - Gartenstadt/Garden City

➽ Das Thelottviertel wurde von dem Architekten Sebastian Buchegger als erste Gartenstadt Deutschlands in den Jahren 1905 bis 1929 geplant und gebaut.
Der Begriff Gartenstadt geht auf den britischen Stadtplaner Ebenezer Howard zurück, der mit „Gartenstädten“ sozialreformerische Gedanken verband.
In Deutschland hatte es seit Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts die Gründung von Villenkolonien für das betuchte Bürgertum gegeben. Es wollte sich von Lärm, Dreck und Enge der Großstädte befreien.
Es musste aber auch für die Wohnprobleme von Arbeitern etwas getan werden, es sollte weiträumig und niedrig gebaut werden, gesunde Wohnungen sollten Zugang zu einem Garten haben.
Wegen seiner Nähe zur Innenstadt aber auch zur Wertach und dem Wittelsbacher Park, ist das Thelottviertel heute eines der begehrtesten Wohnviertel in Augsburg. Die meisten der Gebäude stehen unter Ensemble- oder Denkmalschutz. Quelle: AugsburgWiki

➽ The Thelottviertel was designed and built by the architect Sebastian Buchegger as the first Garden City of Germany in the years 1905 to 1929.
The term Garden City goes back to the British urban planner Ebenezer Howard, who combined social reforming ideas with "Garden Cities".
In Germany there had been the establishment of villa colonies for the prosperous middle class since the middle of the 19th century. They wanted to free itself from the noise, filth and narrowness of the big cities.
But also one had to do something about the housing problems of workers, it should be built wide and low, healthy homes should have access to a garden.
