Augsburger Hohes Friedensfest

➽ The "Augsburger Hohe Friedensfest" (High Peace Festival) is celebrated annually since 1650 on 8 August. The Augsburg Protestants originally celebrated the end of their oppression during the Thirty Years' War in 1648, initiated by the Peace of Westphalia. Today the peace festival is a legal holiday limited to the Augsburg city area, with which Augsburg has the most public holidays in Germany.
The two towers of the Protestant (in the foreground) and the Catholic Ulrichskirche (Ulrich church) stand for religious peace in the city.
