HFF ~ A misty winter
The days before Christmas brought us mist and fog here in England. Here is a sample taken on the outskirts of York. Brrrrrrrr....
Have a good weekend.
The St Gotthard Pass
A 2013 look at this famous pass showing the old twisty road down to the municipality of Airolo in the canton of Ticino Switzerland. This was taken from the bigger newer road which runs to the same place. We are on the way back to Britain from Italy and have just travelled north up to this point from Airolo. We continue upwards for a some distance from here before plunging down the other side towards Lake Lucern (Vierwaldstättersee) still in Switzerland. Of course the tunnel running directly under here is a far more convenient way to travel to both places but.....
The Gotthard Pass or St. Gotthard Pass at 2,106 m is a mountain pass in the Alps traversing the Saint-Gotthard Massif and connecting northern Switzerland with southern Switzerland. It is 26km (16 miles) long.

HWW ~ Middleham Castle
A view from the back of this castle. After having explored the interior it is now time to continue our walk, up and beyond the village.
“Middleham Castle is a ruined castle in Middleham in Wensleydale, in the county of North Yorkshire, England. It was built by Robert Fitzrandolph, 3rd Lord of Middleham and Spennithorne, commencing in 1190. The castle was the childhood home of King Richard III, although he spent very little of his reign there. Wikipedia”
I wish you all a Very Happy and Peaceful New Year
Middleham and its castle
A view from the battlements of this castle, showing the small surrounding village. As can be seen the market town of Middleham is famous for its horse training industry as well as its castle that once housed King Richard III.
The PiP shows an internal view with a statue of the king.
I wish you all a Very Happy and Peaceful New Year tomorrow.
HBM ~ Dürnstein Abbey view
We are in the charming Danube village of Dürnstein here, walking along a road by the river. This goes past the Abbey of which is most picturesque. Until we get to it we can rest awhile on this bench facing the river that still shows signs of the recent floodings. PiP
Enjoy this coming New Year week.
Memories of Austria
No, not of my last trip to Austria only weeks ago but from way back in 1979. This taken in the Tirolean village of Söll whilst on a ski trip there. A slide conversion I think but I did have a large B&W version that I developed and printed too. This church is at the bottom of the Hohe Salve mountain near the village.
Seasons Greetings.

Thoughts of Summer
As we experience the fifth day of rainy fog I cannot but help thinking about our summer days of July here near Middleham in Yorkshire.
Enjoy the day
HFF ~ Know your place!

Another look at York Railway station here. A far cry from what it would have looked like in here at the same time ninety years back with, no doubt, big crowds and lots of smoke, all mixed with the loud sounds of hissing steam , hoots and chatter. Now it seems almost silent.
Have a good weekend and I wish you A Happy New Year
Christmas in Manchester centre.

As Christmas passes us by I leave you with this snap of a scene here in Manchester city centre some years back now.

A Christmas Wish
As the last of the shoppers leave our town centres we can start to think on the true meaning of this moment, our Christmas Eve. A time of peace for all in which to love our neighbours as we love ourselves.
May your festive days bring you all you hope for, as I wish all my Ipernity friends:
A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

HBM ~ Above Dürnstein looking down to the Danube
Here is another shot from our recent Danube trip and we are now in Austria at a village called Durnstein on the Danube with its claim to fame being an old small castle upon a striking hill where King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in 1192. It is one of the most visited tourist destination in the Washau wine growing area.
The followable PiP shows the riverside view of the village and now ruined hilltop castle.
HBM, enjoy the week.
Dürnstein
A view of this beautiful Austrian town with the most beautiful Dürnstein Abbey in the foreground and the old ruined castle on the hill. This taken from aboard our river cruise ship as we left.
Christmas time in the city
Christmas is a busy time! Here in York its a day for festivity shopping and as can be seen in this area of the market, it is where flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables are purchased. A colourful spot here at the edge of the old area of York known as the Shambles.
Enjoy the day
A summer ramble

Another from our Hubberhome walk showing the beauty of the Dales.
Enjoy the day in peace.
HFF ~ A fence for Christmas
As Christmas weekend fast approaches here near my home, it is a rare thing to see snow as in the old days of guaranteed falls at this time of year. This was taken almost a month back down in my local valley when I also had the pleasure of some nice lighting too.

HFF and All the Best.
Bratislava castle at night.
As we begin our second leg of this Danube river cruise from Bratislava to Melk in Austria we say goodnight and goodbye to this wonderful hilltop castle lit up beautifully for us as we pass it. We will pass it again, but without a stop, in four days time.

Enjoy the day.
HWW ~ Yockenthwaite
A view from ‘Top farm’ in the tiny hamlet of Yockenthwaite in the Yorkshire Dales. This is still part of the ‘Dales Way’ and of course we are looking at the River Wharfe. This is actually our half way turning point on the walk that started further downstream at Hubberholme. Another big lens cap lost around here entailing a 30 minute fruitless search, ah well, the trials and tribulations of photography and hiking.
Enjoy the week.
December
As we progress through the month of December I am reminded here of the typical weather we have at this time of year now. This capture was taken just outside the city of York but it could be anywhere in rural Britain. Mist and fog have for long time been a favourite subject for me but a subject too, sadly neglected of late. Enjoy this moody clump of trees formally surrounded by a fence, I presume to keep animals from damaging them.
Enjoy the day.
