NC500 GT. - 41 – Kyle of Tongue
Having left Durness and its locality we head east to the Kyle of Tongue. On the way we see remnants of its history and gaze at the mountainous backdrop of Ben Loyal, a Corbett of 764m.

The NC 500: The Scottish 'North Coast 500' is one of the world’s most beautiful road trips. A route of just over 500 miles (516) of stunning coastal scenery, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, remote fishing villages and hidden gems.

A beautiful, if somewhat sad image, Herb, leaving me wondering about the reason for the abandoned house.

Hi George. This is Moine House, built on the edge of a vast peat bog known as the Moine and it was a dangerous place for travellers. In the 1830s the Duke of Sutherland built a road through it and Moine house was used as a safe resting place for travellers. It was also a family home and by the late 19th century there was a forester living there with his family of eight children and grandchildren.

I imagine that modern transport , and then the building of better roads like the A838 replacing the old road played a part in the house being abandoned. Also it is not the most hospitable of places to live,

Thank you Herb. I hope you didn't mind me butting in but I was fascinated by Moine House and found out the information when I posted a picture of it. It is quite a haunting sight in that harsh but beautiful landscape.

The hazy sunshine over the mountains is really beautiful.........and makes for a very atmospheric shot. I like the colours in the landscape and the abandoned croft looks lovely.........but as tiabunna has noted, also quite sad looking.
