The Dunes of Maspalomas

The Dunes of Maspalomas
A day trip on the Island of Grand Canaria in 2011 brought us to the edge of these dunes. We are quite near the sea here but my photo conveys more a sense of the Safari Desert perhaps. There are signs of tourist having explored the sand giving us scale perhaps but I much prefer the rippling virgin surface here.

Glad you liked this one Gordon and it brought back memories of your nudist days too :) We were only there for about 30 mins as part of an Island bus tour from our ship so did not get a chance to stray!

Splendid capture and it makes a difference to see normal sand colour rather than the ubiquitous volcanic black everything that dominates these islands including many of the beaches!

Thanks Andy. Yes much of these Islands are dominated by the black volcanic sands but this corner of Grand Canaria seems to have more than its fair share of wonderful sand. I believe it really has blown over from African Sahara.
