Ratlin East Lighthouse.

Ratlin East Lighthouse.
Come and join me on a walk over the wild Ratlin Island situated some six miles from the mainland of County Antrim, Northern Island. Here on the east side we find one of the Islands two lighthouses. It was requested in 1827 but work did not start till twenty two years later. In 1995 it was finally converted to electric operation and the keeper withdrawn from the station.

Thank you Lothar. Yes, it did indeed have two lights at one time but I am not sure if that is still the case. It also used explosives to warn ships off the rocks in bad fog but that has finished too.

Wow! What a perfect location for that lighthouse............it must be visible for miles out to sea (which I suppose it the whole point)! The 360 degree views from up there must be fantastic.

A very well composed image Herb with the lighthouse positioned perfectly in the frame. The cliffs are very impressive and I wouldn't want to walk too close to the edge.
