PHD2 Guiding

01 Jan 2023 3 5 169
This screen shot is answer to the question that DJ raised on this shot. To explain this shot This the guiding program you can see very simply the stars it has locked on BOX and all the green circles. The bottom graph shows the commands on the mount to hold it to that position. This is affected by the night tonight we have some moon light the yellow and white line at the top show its not the best night which is mostly very flat no moon. the two boxes to the right shot the star in the cross hair the target next door shows just how much movement to keep it on track. The better polar alignment the better the guiding, the better the mount ability to track from these commands the rounder the star. Also why less weight of cables is very desirable as well. The converse is the red and blue lines wildly swinging high and low and the dot on the target plasters all over the place not mostly in the dead center. This is all run by what looks like a small telescope on the top of the telescope and the great program. This is Live from tonight as it is happening. Like this I am happy and can go to bed.

Pool fence

30 Dec 2022 18 35 198
You wonder why I was missing this week for HFF. I was building a fence myself. We had to take out this fence and a new base was put down over the whole ground that was 2 weeks ago. This Thursday and Friday all day was rebuild the whole lot. We had to contend with a very different sloping surface for drainage, bricks not plum, level or matching the one below and that inside the concrete was iron reinforcing mesh add to that this was 35c for the two days in this closed spot. Some 30 holes had to be drilled into the concrete we struck the reinforcing mesh in 10 of those hole. It was our suggestion keep the glass fence dont buy a new fence we will put it up. the glass is very heavy and not at all safe to pick up with sweaty hand. Rest day last day of 2022.

Christmas Tree Nebula NGC 2264

16 Jun 2023 18 17 218
I have always know there was a Christmas tree in space but it never seemed to come up in time to post for Christmas. You cant mistake the White/ Greenish Christmas tree with the big bright star at it top in the image. It is surrounder in a lot of red but I have tried not to over do the red. Along with the Christmas tree there is the Cone nebula and the Fox Fur nebula in this shot. So this is a real Merry Christmas from Space to everybody QHY 183C -10c 38 shots each night 10 min each over Three nights. Barnards Loop

21 Dec 2022 16 21 236
A shot 3 years in the taking, One I wanted to take on the Star Adventurer but never could Barnard's Loop. Polar alignment and Guiding where the two biggest problems. This is a Wide field of the Orion area with a Nikon 50mm G F1.8 lens but will try again once I can get my parents Nikon 50mm D F1.8 lens with a manual aperture ring. This was taken over 5 night and dumped a lot of shot as the lens is so wide field the city light made it into the shot, in the end it was start after 9 pm finish 2am. Orion was corrected with 5min and 2 min shots. For those in the Northern hemisphere will note that Orion is wrong this is Southern Rotation where it is called the pot as the stars look more like a Pot that Orion's belt and Sword. The PIP's will show you some of the main targets from this area. The Locals

09 Feb 2014 20 28 165
The ones that were chosen for the Astro Fest Exhibit where invited to the Perth Observatory to listen to a few talks. First was the organizer of the Astrofest then a few words from the winner. We all then got to talk how we would like to see astrofest How we though it could be improved what we would like to see back from the Judges. At the end of the night I kicked myself for not bring up my 14mm lens and Tripod the stars where just perfect. As a side note to all those of HFF Erika has to step down to look after her husband I myself have a brother in law just hanging on with bone marrow cancer. We all have our trials and things that take our time please give a thought to just what that means for even you.

The Witch Head Nebula IC 2118

08 Dec 2022 10 7 241
This was more trial than proper shot. The blue light shows up from Rigel in this shot more than the first shot I took of this area. I think its worth doing the whole line of the Witch Head about 2-3 more shots to added to the top will wait for Less moon as well. This utilizing Nina's self line up/rotation mode when framing the subject. this is three shot of the Witch Head on top of each other to make this panorama , they ended up perfectly on top of each other rather than off..... The only draw back is you cant do the frame up before hand you have to do it when the camera can see the subject to get the alignment of the camera. I took these three shots as the trial but it was the wrong target to pick because of the the moon light but the right target to try out the panorama on. The Nikon gets the bright light from Rigel. And the ZWO ASI071 MC astro camera is very badly effected by the same bright light of Rigel, just to the right out of shot. I have put the Nikon 50mm F1.8 lens on the Nikon Rig to take the whole of the Orion area and Barnards Loop. QHY 183C -10c 41 shots each night 10 min each over three nights. Orion nebula NGC 1976

13 Jan 2023 16 13 210
I was starting to do the Witches head but the camera would not focus not matter what I did. My thought was where the stars too Faint. so I turned to Orion with it big bright star. I did get focus but it turned out the program kept asking me to increase the step size . It turned out it was the very opposite I had to make the steps smaller to the perfect curve. I had planned to do this as a one shot for both which i still will be doing Plus a 50mm shot of the whole area and the Huge Bernard's Loop of the Whole Orion Area. This is 148 shot 2 min long all night long then the next night I had to take shorter shots 60 sec , 30sec and 15 sec to over come the blown out core of Orion. The following where my first look at this area with the nikon D810 camera and 420mm lens. QHY 183C -10c 148 shots & 138 shot 2 min over two nights. The Unlucky Joining. Running Man Orion.

I knew that the Running man sat just out of the Orion shot I tried to frame it up so it was in the right place for a large over lap with Orion . After I took the shorter time shots I was left with the night to take some thing so I took the Running Man 138 shot 2 min long. QHY 183C -10c 148 shots & 138 shot 2 min over two nights.
