Borya constricta Churchill & Drosera menziesii =Do look at this max resolution.
I wanted to add a photo that is typical of this winter one that has had no let up and given no quarter. We have had so few breaks of fine weather it has been consistent clouds and rain. Even this photo was taken in the rain this morning under an umbrella but worth it .

My Introduction to this plant was in summer setting up a Milky way shot sat on the small plants only to find out just how sharp and hard those needles are. look at the orange shot in the wild that's what i sat on.

DSC 8914

Borya constricta Churchill

The flower of the Drosera Menziesii not seen by many people.

Drosera Menziesii: Flower enjoy a very rare view

This wild Group has been in my care for the last 7 years they are put in a place so its the same as their natural environment. They get full summer heat and almost look like its a dead group till there is natural water "Rain" and been so much of that this year they are flourishing. all I do for this group is remove any weeds that are trying to grow but the summer dry out kills most which is so extreme nothing survives.

Sadly no milky way shot or not even one deep space photo for the last month, each photo I have taken has taken a full month to get three nights.

Last year, nothing like it this year.

A good photograph for World Photography Day, Steve. The shot of the plants on the rock is fascinating. Have a good day, mate.

Autumn ( Summer colour)

this what you are looking at that rock out in the wild. This the same place they came from and they way they live is just as you see the rock group. My introduction to these was trying to set up a shot for the milky way. I saw the plants and thought ok I can sit on them big mistake each leaf is as sharp as a needle. Potentially these plant a well over 150 years old when you look at their growth pattern. A real WA plant from the wild and still going in the city.

You are looking at how it grows out on the huge granite boulders of our foothills, I was able to find a broken piece that was a large enough plate to put the group on. There is a lot of this on the granite boulders where I go to at night to get photos of the milky way. Glad you like the shots.

A fine wet close-up Steve of this plant clinging onto life here. Your weather sounds like most of ours. A great contribution to WPD. Well done.

Herb you would be right at home I have not had much luck with any kind of photos with all the rain . This was under an umbrella as I knew I was getting close, I wanted the water drops to be almost the star in the shot to show our winter this year. many thanks.

It looks so beautiful how the raindrops cling like pearls to the end of the grass.

You got the reason I took this in one all the water drops from the rain these are for all like a tiny palm tree 50mm high with spikes.

Love your main choice of photo. It is a world of it's own, not unlike the unreachable world of the stars. Beautiful to see the rain on it.

Do you keep the plant at your house? The third photo shows it inside?

How different is it for you to photograph micro verses macro?
Steve Paxton club has replied to raingirl club
That is a total world of its own I used two large egg slices to scoop it up from the granite face. It sits as it was out in the wild on a medium granite plate all the soil it had as a group nothing extra. ... Each is a little tree of its own only about 50mm tall looked stunning in the rain why it was worth getting the umbrella out.

This sits next to but not close to my bonsai collection on a plastic milk crate so it gets full sun like the wild and gets totally crisped by the summer sun 45c max and turns brown. The only water it gets is the rain like the wild plants up in the hills only then does it turn green and come alive.. I do bring it like all the bonsai inside the house to enjoy but they only come in the house for a day or two never more. Bonsai's need sun and care to keep them going.

With a Nikon lens I can only take Macro 1:1 micro is much smaller subjects 30:1 microscope territory. Macro is something I also enjoy to bring to life the smaller world that most miss out on.

You are privileged most of the People in WA never see any of these two ever in there life, you have to get out of town to where they live not in city life and be there at the right time. My main worry first year how would they take city life and not out in the true wilds of WA but they thrived just the same being treated just the same as the wild. Enjoy what you see as most never will see any of this.

We have a common sundew species here in the UK, but I have only ever seen it flowering was when we lived in Norway, the white flowers being very similar to the one in your PiP.

Steve Paxton club has replied to Amelia club
This is a sundew type we do have a few here in WA, that came up in the group in its second year i had it. The plant is almost as big as the group itself and sit on top of the small trees each year I have managed to see that it captures some small insects so it can survive. completely dies away in the heat of the summer i remove the dead stork of the "Branchlette", grows back the following winter. the flower is only in a very wet year a few year only the stork has grown no flowers, these flowers only open for a day then close up again. Both have been fascinating to watch over the years.
