I like this picture very much!
It is a very different and exciting composition.
I think the focussing on one bird only works really well here!! (Very interesting camera settings you have used to achieve it)

Peter it is more a camera setting that you use to calibrate the actual focus point of the lens. Most if not all my lens all factory camera setting where out. most back focus which you can adjust to the right spot, so what you focus on is the point you focus on.

A simple vertical book and a sloping ruler will work wonders.
