Logic has failed! This is the paper goods aisle.
I found this in NYTimes: The vast majority of toilet paper consumed by Americans is made in North America. But about 10 percent of the giant rolls of paper that are used to make the rolls that end up in American bathrooms come from China and India.

No napkins, no paper towels, no baby wipes...

Zu DDR-Zeiten war Klopapier immer mal wieder knapp. Dann haben wir Zeitungspapier in Stücke geschnitten und durch zerknüllen weich gemacht. Ging auch!

Hier haben Leute aber ganze Wagen voll Klopapier gekauft. Aber alles andere ist reichlich zu haben, hab ich gestern in einem unserer nahen Supermaerkte gesehen (dieses Foto hab ich dort gemacht). Nur alle Papierprodukte sind ausverkauft.

Yes, crazy is the right word. Americans buy mostly frozen foods, they are lazy and don't like to cook. So fruit and vegetables are available as always.
