When they sleep on the river they get washed down by the current, and fly back up when they awake.

It's good they can fly a lot faster than the river flows. Very interesting photo.

Doerthe club has replied to Ronald Losure club
A few years ago the Great Lakes were frozen to 93% and there thousands of diving ducks in the river. The Coast Guard icebreakers kept it open. I saw many ducks sleeping on the water.
