Trying to gain a sense of proportion here Ronald, is this flower as big as it appears in your photo? all the references show the flower in the same way.

The flower is very near my house, so I just went out with a ruler and measured it (although it is already shriveling at the end of the day). It is 7 cm across. Maybe it was 8 cm when I took the photo.

Thanks for taking the time Ronald, I only asked because something similar looking grows on the Queens winter residence on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, the flowers on this particular growth are something in the region of 15cm. Yours is an excellent photograph showing all the fine detail by the way.
