Sehr interessant; seltsam ist, dass zwei der Kraniche ein weißes Federkleid haben und die roten Flecken am Kopf rosa sind. Vielleicht sind es Albinos ;-)

Die weißen Kräne sind eine andere Art . Sie sind Grus americana oder "whooping cranes" . Im Welt gibt es nur ein paar Hundert . Die meisten Kräne sind Antigone canadensis oder "sandhill cranes" . Auf diesem Feld gibt es ein paar Tausend .

WE have a Crane breeding program on going where I go for my wetland photography.

Thank you, Maurice. There is a breeding program in Wisconsin from which some of these whooping cranes came. The sandhill cranes have changed their migration patterns in the last ten years or so to spend their winters here in northern Alabama.

It is a fairly recent thing. I understand the cranes used to stop in Nebraska. Now many of them fly on to Alabama. The whooping cranes have only been coming here a few years after they refused to follow the ultra-light airplane any further.
