I was to say that a fool moon looks like your photo, then saw your note. Here it was not visible either because the clouds. Whsat I noticed also is that it looks different from a photo I took once, I mean the spots were differently oriented. I will try to find my pics later

You are correct, Elena. The two dark spots near the lower right edge of the moon are very near the moon's equator, and the moon's north pole is at the upper right. The apparent orientation of the moon depends on the observer's latitude. I am at latitude 33N, so the moon's north pole is approximately 33 degrees above horizontal.

What a great shot, Ron. I regret not seeing much of the sky now, we have bright streetlights around us.

A photo like this could be taken anywhere in the world, despite light pollution. The moon is bright enough to cut through the street lights. When we first moved here, the sky was quite dark. In recent years, our little town has been creeping closer and closer, and there are so many un-shielded lights, it is difficult to see the stars.
