Ne'er cast a cloot til May be oot.

Ne'er cast a cloot til May be oot.
The May blossom is now out in Shropshire, so it's time to put your winter coat into the wardrobe.

Hawthorn, Crataegus monogyna.

Sharp shot dear LGM, but far too early to be counting on not needing a winter coat, although global warming is on your side :)

Indeed!
Is your spring early and warm this year?
Our autumn is early, cold and rainy. Very uncharacteristic.
Keep well, Amelia

Our spring is far too warm this year, Diana. We've had temperatures in the 20s and it's very dry, no April showers at all. There have been countryside fires in a neighbouring county, and for me this isn't an typically English spring. In the farmers' fields the crops are slow growing and desperately in need of rain

It is beautiful...
Funny, our spring is not as warm as usually... same temp as you and some showers, but for us it is colder, we should have at least 5 to 10ºC more... sometimes in April it is already close to 40ºC...

I haven't seen a hawthorn tree since the lockdown began, Amelia, so I am not sure if the may blossom is out here. It is, however, warm enough to discard one's winter cloot. All the best, Joe
