HFF to you all

HFF to you all
The Iron Bridge that crosses the River Severn in Shropshire. Opened in 1781, it was the first major bridge in the world to be made of cast iron, and was greatly celebrated after construction owing to its use of the new material. Tolls for pedestrians were collected until 1950.

A 1923 reports suggested that the main span of the bridge was in poor condition, and the bridge should be used by vehicles no heavier than 2 tonnes. It is now closed to all but pedestrians and cyclists.

The PiP shows the toll charges.

Thank you all for your wonderful compliments. It's spring and I am very busy in the garden, but be assured I will visit you all when I can.

Best wishes, Amelia

Oh dear! My garden has taken over my life! Everything is growing apace, and I'm trying to keep it all under control, as well as endeavouring to organise a village garden trail in July. I think I've visited everyone who has commented. Normal service will be resumed when it starts pouring with rain. ;-)
