This is not without warning. CR said waaaaay back in January that he had no money. The continuous suggestion from IMA that we shouldn't renew our memberships because the IMA wasn't going to honor them meant he wasn't going to get any money, so how exactly do you expect him to pay the bills? I and several other people have been predicting this very thing for months, and every time we mention it a bunch of people get mad.

This is just the way things are right now. To quote what somebody said to me not very long ago, "DEAL WITH IT."

I hope you have seen by now that the problem lay with Amazon not following through with the negotiated bill pay they had agreed to with Christophe. This was completely Amazon's fault and they have apologized for it. Christophe worked long and quickly to get this fixed:

Amazon did a mistake and they are fixing it now. Yes we have some unpaid bills but we agreed on a payment plan.

Is there not a cheaper hosting company than Amazon ?

Thanks for the update, Team ipernity; I am glad that it turned out that the fault was with Amazon, and it looks like they corrected their mistake promptly. ;-)

I've been o sick to have noticed much, now I am recovering, hoping Ipernity does too.

OK. A hiccup.
As has been said before.
But this is still a great site and we need to reverse the haemorrhaging of members and then recruit others. Yes; get them back from Flickr. A volunteer is needed with up-to-the-minute marketing experience and who is media savvy in the digital world. He or she will probably be over 45 as anyone younger is part of of a different world altogether and for whom a site like this is anti-diluvian,unfortunately!
As I type, I more and more see the difficulties. But they shouldn't be insurmountable; seeing that there just has to be a great demand for a site such as this and there has to be a viable way!
I still live in hope!

I delayed my membership renewal (I was going to pay yesterday) because of the problem. When I paid earlier today I found the payment process uses Skrill so it probably wouldn't have been affected anyway.

I wonder about the nature of the problem. Was it 'Amazon' the huge online business, or just some 'junior administrator' there attempting to impress his/her manager with their great efficiency and skill.

With the thought of moving forward, attracting new members and showing Ipernity as a professional site, it would perhaps be a good idea to explore the possibility of having discussions like the above restricted to members only rather than be are visible to the world at large.

Non members reading these threads can't be at all impressed.

Attracting new members by depriving them of information on what is really going on here is in my opinion not a good idea. New members have a right to the truth of what happens here. New members having truthful information can make up their own minds if they are attracted to the site or not. Deception (hiding the truth) is not the way to go to build a platform. Just my humble opinion.

Yeah, restrict it.... So the dozens of members who supported the site for years but let their membership lapse in all this turmoil won't be able to see any of this....

Don't let people see the truth behind the site .... False advertise and all that. Funny thing about the truth... It has a way of crawling out from "under the covers".

Don't you think secrecy has done enough damage to this site already? The truth may be ugly, but it is always better than a lie.....

Ipernity isn't a professional site.... Professional photography sites are very diff't and much more modern. No professional photographer would bother with a site like this to showcase their work. The platform isn't robust enough, nor big enough -- not to mention stability & functionality issues that have plagued it for years.... It doesn't have the staff necessary to run a professional photography site. At best it's a social media site with emphasis on photography. In many ways, not all that diff't from Flickr. The ways that it was diff't catered to those who left Flickr in favor of this smaller platform. Quite a few have regretted their choice once the truth behind this site's problems came to light.... And here we are again.... Someone proposing to hide the truth again....

Your information is already spread far and wide by simply having a computer internet connection

Also.. I assume you have a Credit/Debit card of some sorts. Well all your inof is also out there without an Internet connection.

Yes.. some sites it would be easier than others to steal info from .... agreed on that. However this site is as secure as it can be... as to your Information ... you could be traced (without Info from here) in seconds by most kids who are over the age of 10... we all could....

I understand that the internet can be a dodgy place but there is no need to make it even easier for those who would wish to gain access to private information. I use Facebook, Talkphotography, and several other forums who all have secure sites. Ipernity used to be a secure site as far as I remember..!!

Much as I hate to say this, and never thought I would, I am losing interest in participating.

Join the club Kathleen. So many feel the same way, I include myself. . The proof is evident in how many members have not bothered to be active here anymore. The activity here has plummeted. So that speaks for it's self. And no matter what some say the truth is the truth, the site is going down big time. As is the fact the IMA have achieved in 6 mths what normally takes business takeovers a year to 18 mths.

Especially in light of the fact I have been dealing with a similar thing on another International site for four years (thats 2 buy outs.... both of which were all for burying it ( despite a HUGE community effort ). We finally.. 3 mths ago were bought a 3rd time by people who saw all the potential that was always there. The site is going to survive... granted in a different form for various reasons.. but in part it WILL survive.

Its been four long and many times head bangingly hard bitter years Tess. Times when the whiners and spitter's and bad people have nearly got to the people who have fought and fought and 99% of the time were not in the position to say what was going on.

Its how life is... more so for the likes of all the folk here who are still hanging on. We are ALL tired .... but there is an option... walk away.... its that simple.

I will not.. people like you will not.

THAT is why we are still working at it.

This isnt written in anger Tess.. you know me better I think. Its written more from just being tired too.. and just needing to let some it go in the softest way I know how and also hoping it helps some others understand a little better .. we are doing all we can .. the best way we can.

I am in noway criticizing the work of the IMA. I am simply outlining what I am observing here on Ipernity. Lack of activity and apathy that has made it presence here over the last months.
What ever the reasons for what is happening here. The facts are the facts and I and anyone else (and many have ) have a right to comment on how we feel in the present situation.

Yes Tess... no one is denying any one of us the right to our opinions.. and they have very freely been shared , as should be .

If there was a way to stop people leaving... to shake up the apathy.. I am sure we all would have used it . A ll of us who have stayed have been trying to do that... and will continue to do so.

I wish there was a magic potion but there isn't.

This should be all over soon.. and this site is going to need those here who have stuck it out to help bring people back . We are all going to need a positive attitude.

Well Pam I am sorry but yes I do agree with Tess and disagree with you, if there is a need to shake up the apathy then the IMA team need to start looking in their own back room, for me they are becoming clicky and elitist, that is to say if your face does not fit !!!!. I am not denying they have done a tremendous job in saving the platform but there is no need for the attitude I am feeling where they are saying thanks we've got your money now go away and let us get on with it.

There is a site called SPOKEO .... while we lived in Florida, we were asked (by a worker) to confirm the information on us was correct.
After I came down off the ceiling - I looked at what was there ... it even included a street view of our home ( with license tags on vehicles showing ).
It was a long process to have it removed - but anyone who had seen the complete info on us -- had it.
Do you have a drivers license .. your info is out there.

I have a strong preference for a world where there is an occasional hiccup rather than an occasional 'upgrade' which degrades the value of the site to me.

I agree with Tess. It is the lack of activity or, perhaps, even interest that concerns me. It isn't the same as it was. One example, what has happened to Explore? There once were 18+ pages of photographs now there is 1 page. What I'm stating isn't a criticism of those who have worked to save the site. It's a feeling of losing a venue where we could share our images with our photography friends from across the globe and experience so much from them in return.

Kathleen... Christophe IS Ipernity.. there is no-one else... he has been doing.. or not able to do (because of other things happening... Life happens) everything. Perhaps you were not aware of that.. The only "team" there is is him. That is what happened to Explore.. and Spam.. and all the rest of it. . He has... thankfully.. HAS kept the site running since December. He could have just pulled the plug.. which was his plan (giving us about one months notice )as explained by him right at the very start ... in December. Every single day since then has been a bonus and been a precious chance to work out a plan for this site.

No one can force a person to stay or be active here

The whole idea of the IMA and those folk who wanted this site to continue IS to keep this place as we all recognise it is different and special

I think Kathleen is right to express her concerns and I for one would be interested to hear from Christophe himself about exactly what's happening with regards managing Explore?

You (Christophe) told me personally several weeks ago that you were talking to the IMA about establishing a team of moderators to keep it spam free and vibrant, but there's been no announcement since then at least none that I'm aware of.

That said, it's evident that recently some sort of extra controls have been put in place as it is usually now free from spam, but as Kathleen has pointed out it never goes beyond 1 page as opposed to the 18 pages of images it displayed previously.

I ask not because I see Explore as some kind of popularity contest, but because I think in the past it was a great way of showcasing the many great photographers on ipernity and of introducing you to new people, new ideas and helping bring the wider community together. That is certainly what I used it for on a daily basis and I miss it greatly.

I'm also sure that it must have helped in some way, no matter how small, to draw in people who were perhaps visiting the site for the first time, something that the current 'limited' sample surely can't hope to do.

So, some explanation please Christophe as to what is happening with Explore and how it is currently being managed would be much appreciated?

Your comment on Explore (point 4) is bang on the button.
While Explore is still not fixed or moderated. ( Last I heard was Christophe was leaving the present debacle of explore to be fixed by the IMA when and if they control the site) Regarding Spam at least 4 company's are Present in Explore Videos.

Thanks for that Tess. My point is that someone has clearly changed how Explore works ... nothing else explains why it is suddenly spam free; never runs to more than 1 page of images; and always seems to have poor old Ben sat at the top of the page! ;)

I uploaded an image 30 Minutes ago and I did not appear on my main page. I went into the organise option it appeared as an Icon not an image. I deleted it and tried to upload a different image and after 10 minutes it failed to upload.
So is Ipernity broken again.
Any one having this problem.

I also had the problem with the icon, it seems Ipernity didn't recognize a jpg file as jpg and saved it as a document. The problem seems to be random, out of 3 uploaded jpgs I only had trouble with one.
No problems uploading so far but I suspect that problem also comes and goes.

You have another problem the image in question is appearing and then disappearing in In News "Your contacts: latest photos. I saw it twice and saw it was missing twice. Just looked in now and It's not there.
It's getting very frustrating and worrying with all the different glitches at Ipernity.

Tess, I had very similar problems a couple of days ago. Files either would go through the uploading stage, but then get stuck forever at processing or seemed to go through, but then never appeared in my photostream.

After a couple of hours of frustration the problem seemed to miraculously sort it self out.

As for today, I've just done a few tests and found that some files upload straight away while others are getting 'stuck' at the processing. However, strangely some of the files that didn't initially upload will after a few attempts get through.

Sorry, but I have no idea why this is, but at least you know you're not the only one having this kind of problem of late!

Re the new rates, I think the likely membership pool was projected, and the fee based off that. In other words, someone with IMA did the math, and that fee was the base figure returned to run the Ipernity as a not for profit site. If this is wrong – Pam, anyone – feel free to correct.

But my point is, it was based on the math. People should know that there hasn't been a shred of malice or greed on the part of IMA in anything they have done. Practicalities involved in the ultimate survival of the site have been their focus.

As far as people continuing to migrate to other sites (of which there are desperately few good ones at present), I think this all comes back to things taking time. Progress toward resolution has been, in internet time, slow. Staying put here has required patience. And, if I may say, as much as patience, the situation has required a measure of self-control, that we not complain bitterly about everything. That can be utterly de-energizing, to the people involved in negotiations, and dispiriting to other members.

I don't think one can accurately say "how IPERNITY and the IMA has allowed this site to run to ruins." Drop IMA from that casual equation at least. IMA has been trying. You have to give them that. I think they'll pull it off too, if people here keep focused on our goal.

Paul .... also Thankyou. It notes that the problem was older than was thought and that it affect people not just in Germany... that also makes a difference to what we thoiught was possibly a case (you will see below what I mean)

We did report this yesterday morning (the first time people had passed on there was a problem to anyone)

The problem then seemed to vanish fairly quickly....

Difficult to tell people about things that have vanished.

It THEN re-appeared a couple of times for a short period over the late day/night... intermittently.

As of when I finally shut down at 1am CDT it had not come back.

AS YOU ARE ALL AWARE... we do not have control of the site.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE .... at this point (and no.. we do not know) it IS very possible the problem is outside the site. It is certainly not affecting everyone.. or it wasn't...

Funny.. last December when we all knew the site was closing was 7 mths away... and the IMA was formed after that.

Last I knew AWS and the rest need paying and wil go on needing paying if you want a site.

Then there is the need to sooner rather than later EMPLOY for real money a Techie .. and at least someone like Audrey .

That all being done (or will be ) for free.. it will not go on that way.

I know how frustrating this process has been for all of us, but we have to realize the road will be rocky along the way. Nothing good comes without struggle and cost...that's a fact.

Yes, it's been quiet here as many friends have left for other less satisfying websites, but I believe many of them will return once ipernity is on it's feet again. Quite frankly I'm amazed at how fairly smooth this site has been operating up till now. It could be much worse. The site could have even been shut down during the negotiation period, but they chose not to do that. I am just grateful that we still have a site to come to every day until IMA takes over. Having said that, please know that I am also frustrated with the process of transferral from ipernity SA to IMA. But complaining about it right now won't do anything to help the situation except create heated discussions like this one.

Regarding membership fees (which seems to be the biggest bone of contention), please give IMA a chance to sort it out this first year. Everything is based on forecasts right now, and as such, much depends on actual member participation in order to pin down what actual costs will be. If everyone can stay with ipernity, the chances are good that fees can be adjusted down. But if the fees have to remain high, perhaps allowing members to pay in installments will be the simple solution that helps retain those who can't afford to pay in a lump sum. I hope IMA is taking this into serious consideration.

Any way you look at it, this first year will be hard. I hope that IMA can pull it off, but they can't do it without help from the rest of us. I'm willing to give them a chance to work things out...are you?

End of January 2017 the Membership fee was Just £19.99 GBP That sort of fee was not attracting new business.

Doubling the fee will not attract new business. Quite the opposite is happening People are leaving Ipernity by the droves. This can be clearly seen in the drop in activity here. A tiered system would have been a better choice to allow for all members personal financial situations.
Let those who can afford €50 pay for say a premium club with the benefits of extra attached and then let those who to date paid €24.90 remain club members with the benefits attached.
Let those who now have free accounts pay a sum maybe around €15 / €10. for limited benefits. That way we might keep Ipernity affordable to all.

The main issue that is not being addressed and is an unknown situation at present is how many members have IMA got after all inactive and dormant accounts are deleted. The financial viability of the future of Ipernity is dependent on the numbers of members that are actually present here at the end of the day.
