John... so far from likely as to be zero... THAT was and is a totally different issue.. and would still be ongoing..

I know Pam, France was not one of the 90 countries hit, though it was during the Presdential election campagne by some extreme right wing group.

Skype was also prone to hiccups esåecially on Friiday when Ipernity was offline, it happened while I was chin wagging with an old Iper friends in UK.

i had e-mailed Sami Serola but did not get a reply until next day.

Cristophe should have given us the SITE REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED DURING FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY in advance as it would have saved a lot of people making the wrong assumptions and the Rumour mongers would have had no basis for telling 'Porkies'

As far as we are aware... it was an optimisation that didnt go as planned. Had it.. the mess I guess wouldnt have happened.It has also been going on and trying to be corrected since 4th May.

My impression is that they don't know when this will happen. It isn't "maintenance". When computer people talk about "stabalizing" a system, that means the down time is not planned. It is not unusual for there to be issues when programs are updated. Big companies run side by side systems to confirm that everything is working before going live, but most places can't afford that luxery. That means that sometimes programs go down for awhile. It is frustrating from our end, but it isn't planned in advance by the programers. Hope this info helps.

It would be nice to have a notice placed somewhere like on twitter or facebook, but I am happy just knowing that they know there are issues and that they are working on it. And while of course notice would be nice, personally I'd rather they spend there time fixing it

Just type ipernity twitter and you can see page and info if there is any,that twitter feed now is pretty slow but when IMA takes over i hope it will come alive.

I'm one of the few who isn't on Twitter, never thinks of it and hates Facebook (I go on there when I have to, about once a year!). My only social media site is ipernity (and occasionally 23 hq). I simply don't have the time to deal with other sites! ipernity takes up far too much of my time as it is! I have a massive sleep debt! So thank you!! I got a good night's sleep last night!

programming changes can have a ripple effect. they can only make their best guess at how long it will take to fix. Mr. Ruelle says "We expect to stabilize everything during the week-end." The weekend is not over.

Someone please tell me how an image with 1 comment and 1 Fave makes the top of Explore Page 1 as a "popular" photo? It seems the whole philosophy of Explore has instantly changed!

Can somebody explain what the philosophy of Explore was before? It's always seemed completely random to me.

As someone who was in the process of migrating [thousands of] photos, I can say that this issue with the site coming and going and certain processes stalling, etc. has been going on for more than a week. At times the site would be down for minutes, other times for hours...

As for the Explore - I have never bothered to check out how it works, but it would be a great idea to feature pictures that don't have many views yet. Why on earth would anyone want to promote a photo which already has, say, 500 likes and 1000 views. I find the idea silly. "Explore" as a word reminds me of venturing to unknown territory -- which the feature in my opinion could or even should be about.

I agree with others that it would be nice and useful if the team had an active Twitter (or Facebook, or whatever) account for both promotion and announcements.

IT issues apart, I have always felt that the most annoying problem with my beloved Ipernity has been the lack of information and communication - weeks and weeks sometimes months and months without any form of messages even just to say 'hello'.

If I am allowed to get involved with helping to run the IMA site in the future I would do everything possible to promote there being regular contact to members every few days or so - at least once a week.

I don't use Facebook or Twitter - I don't like them and really don't want or need them but I have warmed to their presence as alternatives to keeping members informed in the event of the main Ipernity site being down for any reason. I don't think Facebook or Twitter should be considered the way to communicate to members except in an 'emergency'.

Explore is now down to 3 pages. Why not just get rid of it entirely? Obviously, either the old regime doesn't care about it anymore or the new regime can't handle it yet. In either case, this should have been totally worked out before the transfer.

Only Explore on your news page (just 18 pictures) is working properly.
IMA has nothing to do with it, so you can not blame them.

It looks like Explore has been abandoned. Audery IP normally looks after Explore but she seems to have given up on that for now and maybe into the future. IMA have no control on what IP/SA does or does not. No usual mail on "Your News" either today.

I have just recieved 'My News' rather late in the day as it always used to arive between 09.00 and 10.00 my time.I was not aware that Audrey ran explore, as she is relatively new here someone else must havebeen running it but to be honest Tess I never gave it a thought above wondering how a friend could say now and then 'Congratulations on Explore' If this had not happened I would not know that some of my photos are there, if Iopen and look I see none of my own, onlythose of other users.

Terrible slow performance this evening. Verging on being unuseable, what is going on?

More hiccups since yesterday evening: first of all, difficulties in login in; when login is accomplished, difficulties in moving from page to page.
This brings back a question I asked a few weeks ago in another thread: Supposing that IMA takes over, who will take care of these "hiccups"? Are there competent coders in the group who will be able to maintain the site and fix bugs when they come up?

Sami, I really appreciate your presense here photo wise and also your help with information etc with the transition.

I also know how hard it is to wait, and how hard it is to not have someone at the helm dealing with the issues of the program.

I'm wondering if we can take the information we've been given and try to understand the situation from the other side. What I see is that Christophe was kind to offer to help with the transition for free. I see that a complex business transaction is in process and that (somewhere I read) they have given us a time frame of 6-8 weeks to complete the process. Can we pause and be thankful for the negotiating that has gone on? By not being the ones to be directly in the creation of IMA and it's proposal (I know we all had suggestions), we lay our hopes in those that did. I trust them to do their best.

I think it might be a positive step to have a running list of items that have come up with the program for IMA/Christophe to address AFTER the transition is final. (We do know that Christophe's side is helping with some programming to optimise it [which should mean less cost to us at the back end], but I know doesn't have the staff it took to keep us with quick response time to issues for now.)

I wish to send positive thoughts their way to continue to persevere through this tough time. Will you join me?

I fully understand the situation is not easy for Christophe either, because I think there is not many on his side helping to keep the service running. As a matter of fact, he is most likely all alone at the moment.

We IMA founders also try not to harass Christophe too much and too often.

Ok, not Fizgig destroys the Ipernity community, but IP / SA doing it themselves. You agree with me, however, that the operator of IP is still Christophe Ruelle and not IMA, right? At least 23HQ is run by competent staff. Can't say that for this site anymore.... And with this "love it or leave" attitude becoming more and more pervasive here at ipernity it isn't worth staying even if IMA is successful. The diehard supporters are becoming increasingly hostile and nutty. What the hell is so wrong with people voicing their opinions and putting their feelings on what is going on here into words? Don't attack those stating the obvious.... Aim your hostilities where they really belong.

I've been a paying customer on this site for years and as such have every right to express publicly and/or privately exactly what I think about the way it is being run.... I'm NOT responsible for the state of affairs here, so get off my case. And you can stop telling me to leave, too, because 100% of my images have been moved -- what remains is just waiting to be deleted. I've closed all the groups I founded myself already....

The problem with this site isn't people who point out the problems with it, but the fools responsible for those problems in the first place. The truth is the truth whether people are capable of accepting & dealing with it or not.... Telling people like me to leave isn't going to fix anything with this site.... And the more people who come across idiotic comments like that, the more the member pool will shrink.... It's hostile comments like those that turn people off, not those voicing an opinion about the pathetic state of this site.

Sorry but closing groups or deleting photostreams do not help. Not even you. What does it cost to leave it running till the end, give a chance to IMA? By deleting groups you contribute actively to the death of the place.
This is just a statement, I do not mean to insult you and respect anyones freedom of thoughts, but I feel free to say that atitudes like yours just helps the ship to sink.

What it costs is losing control of ones content.... If the site goes under all the content gets archived and the content owner no longer has any say as to its use or abuse. Most of the photos wouldn't have been that much of an issue, but I had content that has been published as well as quite a few artwork pieces.

As for closing grps. It's out of respect for the members.... Keeps them from wasting their time with participation and posts, etc. only to see the grp. closed anyway. And close they will because IMA will impose their unfair fee eventually -- now that their take-over is virtually assured --- at which point I will lose most of my contacts and no longer have any use for this site anyway and will be forced to leave as free accts. will not be accepted (not that my acct. has ever been a free one, but I don't find this site worth €50/yr which is more than double what I was paying). When I'm forced to leave any grp. I founded gets unceremoniously dropped into someone else's lap and that's not fair -- having been on the receiving end of that process, I know the nuisance it can be. So, yes, those grps. where I'm the sole admin., are now gone. There are still a few out there that I founded and run with partners which are in a holding pattern with very little activity or activity only from the same 1-5 members. Their fate will be decided once IMA starts imposing their will.... If the founding partners leave, then the grps. will be closed.

You see, not everyone has time/energy/willingness to mess around with this site while the owners and IMA try to find common ground. Not everyone wants to invest their time in a failing site. And many have left for the simple reason that I noted --- not wanting to lose their content to an archive team.

Yeah, I get that it doesn't help the site.... But the site isn't helping me any either.... It gets what it gives and at the moment it's not giving even what I payed for. And in IMA's clutches that's not likely to change either.

This is a failing business.... Some of us don't believe in bailing out failing businesses. And some of us haven't seen anything from IMA to assure us that things will be any diff't under their full control. So, it still looks like a failing business... I think people have been patient long enough and if they now are choosing to stop activity on this site, it is their understandable right to do so.

I left Flickr in 2013 for this site.... They didn't see a penny more from me since b/c Yahoo! forced me to leave with the way they were running the site.... I have never gone back as a paying customer... Ipernity SA ensured my departure with mismanagement of this site & reckless disregard for their customers.... IMA put the nail in the coffin. So, not another penny to this site's owners either. As far as I'm concerned, they're no better than Yahoo! was with Failr. Actually, they're worse.... Yahoo, by making free accts. the same as paid accts. eliminated the need to listen to the vast majority of their members and ignore the minority who pay for the service --- if you don't like it, leave.... Well, guess what.... People left... Yahoo! is basically gone now -- not just because of their dealings with Failr, but gone nonetheless. And if IMA has the same disregard for their customers as ipernity SA & Yahoo!, their story will end no differently.

It's awesome though that members trying to keep the site from going under are actually rejoicing that people are leaving. Don't need those who are leaving to take the site down.... LOL! But, every comment counts as activity, so, really, you should be happy with those who are annoyed & choose to be vociferous about it rather than wishing they'd just leave.... Every person who leaves is highly likely to take a few of their contacts with them, too.... Will you still be rejoicing when those numbers really start to impact your wallet --- 50€ will NOT be enough to keep this site running once those who refuse to or can't pay that amt. leave? I can't stand all the silly moaning when there is very obviously nothing to be done at the moment anyway. I don't understand why people feel the need to bicker with each other over some website. First I found it funny, now I just find it a completely unnecessary drag. All the people repeatedly threatening to leave could actually just leave already, as they've promised.

Sure, there are several things that could have been managed better, but personally I don't feel any of this has significantly weakened the quality of my life, the quality of my work, or even the quality of my Ipernity experience. It is very hard for me to see why some people feel like that. I don't even feel like I'm having to wait for something, because quite honestly I have other stuff to do than just sit here getting revved up.

The only thing that is currently ruining my Ipernity experience is this discussion, which I intend to stop following because it's been looping pointlessly for a good while now and it is neither constructive nor interesting.

For the time being ( I hope) see for the latest 18 Explore pictures on 'Your news in a flash page". All recent pictures with enough views/favs/comments.

Upon seeing this comment -- for that reason alone, mind you -- I checked out what I get with Explore.... 12 pgs. worth of images. Now I don't check the thing regularly as I don't find it particularly useful and it's definitely not indicative of quality photos, so I don't know how long the same images have been in there. The main reason for responding here is to say that it appears to work normally for me --- at least as far as the number of images that appear in it is concerned.

Whether that's useful info. for anyone or not, I dunno ;)

In contrary to some members, who assumed and mentioned Audrey above.... Audrey did surely NOT manage 'Explore and what's hot', this was an automatic algorithm. Max. 1 image per user and considering how many fav's and comments in what time. This is now obviously abandoned.

I contacted IP with a query asking why Explore did not upload at the weekends. Audrey replied and she told me she managed Explore manually but not at the weekends.

Yes, that 'weekend thing' has been here for a long, long time.

I'm pleased to share Paul's message. He's sure right and Jaap too, that Audrey did some input to Explore but I'm also sure, that the general (first) selection was done by an algorithm. I think it's impossible, that only a human being made this selection, because this would have been a fulltime job. That's what the team responded to a my question about selection mode, I have to admit, this is quite long ago and may be I'm wrong now.

Just picking up on your comment earlier on the Team Ipernity article, especially as I'm one of the ones that mentioned Audrey in connection with Explore.
I have no idea if it's the algorithm or a lack of human input that's responsible for the current problems, but I can assure you that Explore has always required human input from time to time.
Firstly, there have been times in the past when the number of pages displayed has, for whatever reason, declined and it has taken backroom action of some sort (usually by Audrey) to sort it out.
Secondly, the algorithm does not identify content that some might feel inappropriate such as commercial/spam images or adult content. So, again it has always taken some human intervention to 'knock' any such images off Explore.
As I say, I have no idea it it's the algorithm, the lack of human input or a bit of both that explains what's happening lately, but these are the facts as far as the past is concerned. I was going to comment in the thread, but there's enough chatter at times as it is so I thought I'd message you direct instead.
I'll leave it up to you if you want to amend your post or share what I've said! :)

unfortunately that is not always possible. if there are hacker issues or other things going on, in programming one sometimes has to move forward.

Do you know that there were hacker issues? If so, and if the "optimization" has gone bad, why not then go back and start over? But may be I am too naive.

Because they don't have real tech. support personnel on the new IMA team. Why would the people who were so ready and willing to toss this site in the trash be willing to waste time with it now that they no longer own it and do so for free? Doesn't make sense....
