Dear Members,
Your many reactions to our last announcement have deeply touched us.
We feared a wave of criticism, but once again we found out how extraordinary you are and the astounding community that has been the heart of ipernity for so many years.
Many of you have expressed their desire to help us find solutions, and naturally asked questions about the reasons behind the closure of the service.
Here are some first & quick answers.
To begin with, as we have already expressed at the beginning of the year, the ipernity staff has been reduced to the bare minimum. This lack of resources prevents us from developing the service and offering it a real future.
To overcome this lack of resources, many of you have suggested to increase the price of the subscription, or to monetize ipernity with advertisement.
Unfortunately, even our most ambitious forecasts have demonstrated that it would not generate enough income to put together a new team.
You can do the math yourself ... there are about three thousand Club members. We should double this number (or double the price of Club subscriptions) to consider hiring just one additional person. And to develop Ipernity appropriately, it would be necessary to reconstitute a team of 4 or 5 developers at least ...
We have not found the solution. It is unlikely that we will find it in the future.
Ipernity has no debt and still has some money in the bank, enough to hold on for a few months. For this reason, we felt we have to communicate on the high probability of a shutdown of the service, unless buyers make themselves known within a short time.
It is also important to note that ipernity is in the EURONEXT stock exchange market. We have thousand of shareholders who represent about 1/3 of the company's capital.
The other two-thirds are owned by the founders, who invested some money, and more of that, their energy to develop ipernity for many years.
The decision to transfer ipernity to a third party or to shut down the service will be a decision taken collectively by all shareholders and be subject to a vote in the next weeks.
At this time, none of the historic shareholders and founders expressed a desire to continue the adventure. After spending almost 10 years in this beautiful adventure, we must admit our failure. When such an admission is made, it’s time for us to “pass the relay” or turn the page.
Thus, and as you understand it, it remains quite possible that a new team will take the lead of ipernity. We will support any takeover proposal in front of shareholders.
We have received several requests for information on this subject, and we are currently dedicating all our energy to this topic.
It is still impossible to say that ipernity will find a “new home”, but we are on the right track.
We will of course keep you informed as soon as possible.
In the meantime, do not push the button to close your account, but please bear in mind that no later than January a decision will be taken. We will offer you solutions to recover your content and the terms and conditions for a refund of Club subscriptions.
Thank you again for your support, and thank you to all those who wish to give to ipernity a second breath.
Christophe & the rest of the Team.

The large majority of us are still hoping to spot a Lifeboat on the horizon.
John.
I, and many others, do not want to see Ipernity shut down.
Please find a solution.
Hope there will be a solution to keep Ipernity alive.
Mavì has replied to Jaap van 't Veen clubMavì has replied to Jaap van 't Veen clubAndrea Riberti club has replied to MavìCari soci,
farsi conoscere in breve tempo.
Dopo aver investito quasi 10 anni in
Difenderemo ogni progetto in corso

Time is of the essence for those who wish to download
their photos ... so far, nothing ... can you please advise
as soon as possible ... thank you.
So, I see little point in adding anything else at this point other than to wish you well and to draw to your attention, and the wider community, the User Poll I'm trying to conduct.

We are all hoping that some solution can be found. This has been our photographic home for many years, and is very important to a lot of us.
Denn die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt.
It is worth staying!!!!!!!
I have to wonder if you and the shareholders actually REALLY know what you are about to throw away ?
Please.... ...if you insist on doing so.. allow us time (yes I have stuff backed up) to recover Albums as a whole( yes I know they can be downloaded at the moment) that means with their proper information (not just numbers on pictures).... this cant be beyond possible.. and would help so many of us.
This is a special place.. you have been offered a better business plan by many... I wont hold my breath.. but if YOU dont want this anymore.. then open source the code to others who could use it. Thankyou
BONNE CHANCE.
And for God's sake, stop telling people to wait until January to deal with their photos! Even if you write a script, there is no way your servers would be able to handle so much traffic all at once. People will lose their work when your servers crass under the strain..... I'm not saying people should close their accts. necessarily, but, they certainly should be making their own provisions to offload everything they can't be without. And the ipernity staff should be advocating that more than anyone instead of telling people to wait until Jan. in hopes the team will muster up enough energy to write something to allow for mass downloading!
David Dahle has replied to FizgigIt woulda been nice if I could have grabbed the titles / descriptions too, but it is what it is.
Diane Putnam club has replied to FizgigJust sayin'...
Wish you well for the future, wherever that may be.
I hold out hope that the site can continue and continue with good people like you all have been.
If the worst happens and no one takes over and the site closes, would the code be lost forever or would there be a chance for it to go open source - giving someone the chance to carry it forward? There are so many things right with this site. Seems that even with no other tweeks it could stand on it's own (with the servers to back it up of course) and carry on. Just a thought.
peace
I hope that happens and we can continue to post our pics to this brilliant site.
Regards,
Jeff Farley.
EX-Panoramio users are used to. We were treated with disrespect by Google when Panoramio was closed. However I can not use my energy once again trying to keep a ship from sinking. If a way is found to keep Ipernity going, I would gladly continue as a paying member... I hope so because there really is no similar alternative to IP.
Jaap van 't Veen club has replied to Peter Van LomThat's why you are NON paying member ??
Peter Van Lom has replied to Jaap van 't Veen clubDiane Putnam club has replied to Peter Van LomL. L. Wall club has replied to Diane Putnam clubIf big corporate Google cared nothing for the Panoramio communities, then it boggles my mind that they care not about the millions(?) of pieces of art uploaded onto Pano (yah, there were clueless snapshots there too) ... and the ephemeral records of unfolding history that were there too. Panoramio is a photographic museum/archive never to be matched again.
Best Regards from Downeast Maine, Wally
My 4 little groups have lost members.. but I am still commenting on each photo(as I have always have done) and intend to do so till the lights are turned out... or new lamps put in !
Looking forward to new lamps !
Sad greetings, Stevia
@Santa Claus, maybe you have a solution for the team of Ipernity in your Christmas luggage? ;-) That's all I want for Christmas!
I really hope to stay here but I will never use it as an external hard disk and you all should do the same: when a site disappear you might loose "just" comments and titles but your "negatives" MUST be physically saved at home!

Smiley Derleth club has replied to austintaylor619The simple answer is use Down Them All!, available for MAC or PC. Ipernity mentioned it some time back:
www.ipernity.com/help/faq/album#360
It's available several places, including here:
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downthemall
You install it as a browser add on, and then, when you go to your albums pages, it offers you a download option that doesn't exist otherwise. (It downloads albums.)
Here's a more complicated answer, from Ipernity Support:
My Q: "Is there a TOOL to let users to download their photos WITH THE TITLE intact?
Down The All! is stripping away names of pictures. Help, suggestions, advice, tips, please."
Their A: "One of our dear contributor developed a tool to send back your album to Flickr.
"Please consult this link : github.com/benmesander/flop
"If you do not know how to use it, please be patient, we will post instructions asap."
This is a very tech intensive solution. I wouldn't try it without a lot more instruction.
I now have backups of all my 10,461 photos stored on iPernity so am feeling a little happier BUT iPernity surviving and continuing is what I really want.
I can recommend Firefox browser and DownThemAll as a solution. I seems the larger the files the more smoothly it works in combination with iPernity. Well worth the suggested $10 donation to support the DownThemAll plugin maintenance and development.
What do you can say to people as me which lost their membership in Club after 2 years directly in 2 days after your Bad News ??? Is it ok that some people have 2 days ONLY for saving their "more 200 pics " with comments ? Do you think so that it was possible ??? ! ( I'm NOT retire with full free days ! ) It wasn't possible !
Also possibility as "to pay for one month for the Club " or for 3 month are hanging now .
I know that you all are very busy now, but - it's not fair left this problem without any answer or new decision. I expect some SOLUTION for this problem from you all.
Have a good day! greetings from Poland.

It's great to have more time for saving in more peace what I have.
I agree. Something must be done to save all this. There are no other communities and platforms like this, not that I know of.

Let's all hope that the wonderful efforts being made by members and others will pay dividends and we will have Ipernity for many more years and beyond!

Maybe it's obvious and all have knowledge of this, but just in case if someone forgot, I would like to share with you here:
Before than you will delete your photo - that you can save your every site + ALL comments and the title by press the right mouse button for use the command "Save As ..." ? It will be complete Website, you can watching later on you PC also without connection with Internet .
Lets give to others , please!
Stiffleaf club has replied to Belleuseraingirl club has replied to BelleuseI have my photos backed up on my home computer and an external hard drive, so I'm not afraid of loosing them, but am afraid of loosing the order and choices and comments and of course the friend connections.
I was glad to hear that you got a solution from the team for your situation.
Belleuse has replied to Stiffleaf clubBelleuse has replied to raingirl clubTry, please, in this way :
I'll try to quickly explain:
1. Set a screen page Iper with some of your photo (one large picture with comments under the pictures)
2. Place the mouse cursor on any blank white space on the page (not: the picture!)
3. Click once right mouse button - opens the menu
4. probably in 4th place you see a command / option: Save as ..., you click here
5. Your computer opens a new window with a view of your files (downloaded), you can assign a new name or not (no need to change the name or type: Complete website). You can choose from the right side at the bottom of the option: Save or Cancel.
6. Option: Save as ... - this take to download the page to your Downloads folder.
7. Proceed in the same way as always when something downloading (from mail, Internet, etc.) - on the bottom of your site you see:
Show all. You click. A new page opens with a view of recently downloaded your document, you click "name" ( you see complete site ) or "Show in Folder" (then you see this site in your Downloads folder). You can now see the entire page of Iper.
You close the page and you're back on the Ipernity to the site which was downloaded.
8. Note: if there is A LOT , MANY of comments under the photo - you have to click at the end in place of the "next comments" to expand the rest of the comments, to the end. And only then save the page - everything will be visible! Also title etc.
9. If my description is not enough - I will try to take a photo-collage of screenshots with all next steps, as I said ,
but I'm a little busy right now, so the earliest I can show it tomorrow! GOOD LUCK :-)
Bahm.
And now...? I haven´t any idea what to do. It´s way to short time to think about it for my person.
But I feel sad. Another time in december, after losing a lovely person I lose a lovely place? Not the best end of a year.
Can´t say anymore anything...
Nearly 3 weeks have passed so I wonder what has been decided and if no decision has been made yet just when is the discussion with shareholders to take place and when will they make a decision?
It is still impossible to say that ipernity will find a “new home”, but we are on the right track.
Again I find myself wondering just how are these efforts taking shape. Are you still on the right track or did you find you had wandered down a dead end and have since come to realise you're lost without a plan?
With just over 4 weeks to go it would be nice to get some answers, some kind of an update if you like about what is actually going on here?
I still like to believe the people behind this site are genuine and that they do have the best interests of the community at heart, but the countdown clock is ticking and each day that goes by without any kind of a public statement makes it harder and harder to cling onto that belief.
It also sees more and more people drawing their own conclusions and leaving, not because they want to, not because there's an equivalent never mind a better product out there, just because they've had enough of all the uncertainty.
And what of the "several potential buyers" with whom the "head of the team" was negotiating and one of which was described as being "really serious"?
And what of the fact that no mass mailing has taken place yet to communicate with the community as a whole that the site is under threat ... why has this not taken place and is it really acceptable that, as it currently stands, it would appear the first many might know of the site's closure may well be when they try to visit it one day and discover it no longer exists?
So many questions, but all quite straightforward. So why is it so difficult to get any of them answered? Ooops, just realised I've added another one to the list! ;)
Stormlizard club has replied to autofantasia clubThis of course is not correct. Another French social site I know of is financed that way 'Skyrock.com'
Anke has replied to autofantasia clubHard, but true: We just have to wait and to hope...
That seems a bargain to me.
If that sum from enough club members will keep the Ipernity servers / cloud up and running for a bit longer, then I'll be happy.
Could you release the code of ipernity so it´s possible to set it up on your own server?
Maybe under a license which disallow it to make any profit out of it if you don´t want that..... creativecommons.org/choose - or something similar...? Pleeeeease.....!
.... But it would be a shame to let this project just disappear from the net, with all this translated phrases, functions etc. as it is still working pretty fine... All the time which are invested also by your "customers"...
It´s like something of your own will be disappearing shortly if ipernity is shutting down... as it wasn´t just a plattform to share docs and thoughts on.
Perhaps the inverse of the import-from-Flickr tool. I hate to go back to Flickr, but it's looking like the only option at this point.
