The post office closes and a lazy day watch the rain

I got a shock this morning when I went to the local Post Office,the shutters were down and the ATM was offline.A passing girl told me they closed yesterday.I have heard no news of the closure so don't know if it is permanent or new management are moving in.This is a bad blow for the folks this end of the island especially the older ones who draw their pensions there.The easiest post office to get to now will mean taking a bus into town and with winter not far off it will be a hard journey for the elderly and infirm and Monday is pension day.There is a post office at the north of the island but no north/south bus service and it is a long walk for me never mind them.
Previous changes in management have been done on a Saturday night and Sunday and it was business as usual on Monday. The signs are not good.

Another shocking day here after early cloud the rain has set in,not soft summer rain but cold hard and very heavy rain with flood alerts for low lying areas. I am about 8 metres (26ft) above sea level here and there isn't much in the area on higher ground and a lot are pretty near sea level.We really don't need a storm right now.Luckily the tides are small at the moment
Th e cat's have decide sleep is the answer and I have two rugby matches to watch and it's no cooking Saturday so a lazy one for the cats and myself. Ellen is not so fortunate she is at work and will no doubt take a battering coming home.She had a late start
today before beginning a 12 day shift of 6am starts so it will be taxis to work for her if this weather keeps up for any length of time.
Time for a chew and a brew before the egg chasers start,catch you soon.

Oh, so now the PO's over there are getting in on the closing down act, the same occured here a few years back, now I have a Post Kiosk in the local supermarket. As luck would have it, here all pensions are paid automatically into our Bank accounts, everybody must have one by law so the only people to suffer are those that have been bankrupted or convicted of fraud.
Your weather does not sound nice, good for you there's stuff on the goggle box to keep you happy.

the elderly were encouraged to open post office bank accounts John,which most did it looks like a ot of them will have to switch to a mainstream bank to get a debit card for the ATMs but parcels,car licenses and lots of other things go through the post office

I see, we've never had PO savings here, we were all forced into using banks many years ago in order to stop wage snatches from vehicles. All firms had to pay the wages/salaries directly into Bank accounts.

Our Post Office closed down at the bottom of my road and it's now a lovely chic furniture shop. My pension does get paid directly into my bank account and so it doesn't really affect me. I'm sure most people have their pension paid into their bank account, but the elderly were encouraged to take out a Post Office bank account which is now obviously defunct in a way. Post Offices are not only for collecting pensions - what about if they want to post anything like a parcel? How would they manage then? That person who ran a pub and then designated part of it as a Post Office had the right idea.

It rained most of today here too - it's cooler that it has been for the past week or so. Hope you enjoyed your egg chasers, I enjoyed watching the Formula One Grand Prix qualifying today!!!

Our local post office closed down too with little or no notice, and a bus/car is the only option for the elderly here. The other post office is over a mile away, and up a steep hill.
Weather isn't too bad here though the evening and mornings are decidedly chilly. Hope the rain won't be too bad.
