After a glorious sunny day on Wednesday, we’re back to rain today – Thursday. A lot of the UK is forecast rain today, so it’s not just Wales being lashed by wind and rain.
On a recent walk with the dog I found what looks for all the world like an olive tree! It’s not a small tree, and is on public land, so I’m keeping an eye on that. I took a leaf from the tree and looked up olive trees, and it does look like it’s an olive tree. How weird is that? My sister is coming up soon for a meal, and I’ll take her to have a look at it. It already has small green ‘fruit’ on it, so she can offer a second opinion. I’ve also noticed 2 trees that are awash with cherries, both easy to get at, so I’m going to keep an eye on those too. I’ve also remembered where I saw damson trees a few years ago, also on public land. The cherries may need to be cooked as I doubt they’re sweet cherries, but you never know, and I’m always open to free food. :)
Speaking of free food, my sister mentioned that her neighbour buys packs of vegetables, uses what she needs for the one meal, and then gives them to my sister because she doesn’t want to keep them. I’ve offered to take some off her hands if she has too much lol. She usually brings me eggs too, so that will be good. It’s her Birthday soon; none of us has much spare cash, so I’m making her and her BF a nice dinner to celebrate. I got some steaks recently on offer, and we’ll have baked potatoes and salad with it, and crusty bread. Hopefully by then I’ll be able to taste food again.
I’ve had a really bad cold, and have been poorly since Friday. I woke with a raging sore throat, went to work anyway, and it’s been downhill ever since. I was really poorly over the weekend and stayed home, and had Monday and Tuesday off as I felt quite ill and had a raised temperature. I’m feeling a bit better now though my stomach muscles and ribs ache from coughing, and I’ve been awake since 4am due to a coughing fit. On a whim I googled my condition and immunity, and have found that large studies have been done that show people with this condition are twice as likely as the general populace to catch colds and flu. How lovely, though it does go some way to explain why I seem to be catching one cold after another. I’m usually ‘suffering’ with hay fever by now, but I doubt it can break through the cold germs!
It could be worse; my poor sister has just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Dinner will be okay, but I can’t make her a Birthday cake due to the sugar content, so we’ll have a fresh fruit salad; it’s better for us anyway. So, no more popping to the Portuguese bakery for coffee and custard tarts any more, unless she can be good and just have coffee with no sugar. I just hope she takes this seriously, and keeps an eye on her general health. As her ‘big’ sister, I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on her and will give her short shrift if she doesn’t look after herself; that’s what big sisters are for ;)
When I started this blog I wasn’t sure what to write about; I didn’t do too badly lol. I’ll stop now. Enjoy the rest of the week and have a lovely weekend.

Free food is wonderful, here there are cherries everywhere, some are sweet, others are great for Jam, we also have wild Mirabelle plums everywhere, some are nice, others are like tasteless fake mashed potato. There are wild Strawberries in the forests and wild Raspberries too and of course Blackberries.
Not nice to have colds, food either all tastes the same in a horrid way or not at all. Glad to say I have not had one for many years, probably because I never go to crowded places or entertain guests. Hope you are soon free of yours and you don't replace it with Hay fever.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
John.
Sorry you're feeling ill. Sounds like it was the flu more than a cold as you had a temperature.. You haven't told us what your condition was.. But I assume you need to start using vitamins to supplement and keep healthy.. Feel better..
Stormlizard club has replied to GracieHere there are so many wild cherries but eating too many can give some people a problem.
Since way back when open rubbish Tips were forbidden certain species of our Gulls found cherry trees to be an alternative food source so we are in danger of getting Red smeared windows and cars.
Gracie has replied to Stormlizard clubFree food is always welcome,I have rhubarb, blackcurrants and gooseberries in the garden, most goes to neighbours as I only like the blackcurrants
We have blackberries and loganberries sown the lanes and the lads in the allotments always have some buckshee veg.
You sister needs to take the illness seriously and stick to the right food then she will be OK,as for your health problems it seems you may be stuck with them, roll on summer
Stopping it wandering is sometimes the problem Mick lol
