This week I have been mostly reading. I’m so gripped by a book that I ordered online that I’ve switched off the TV some days. I’m a huge fan of Terry Pratchett, and in searching for his latest Discworld novel (released in November by the way) I found The Long Earth written with Stephen Baxter. I only started reading in on Monday and I’m almost half way through it already, so if you’ve read it, don’t tell me what happens! I literally can’t put it down and I’m in bed reading until after 10pm, and awake at 5am reading again.
This week I’ve also been getting to grips with my new washing machine. My old one was over 10 years old, had moved house twice, and has been on its last legs for quite a while now. The clothes sometimes come out dirtier than they went in – go figure! And sometimes it would ‘forget’ what it was doing. The other morning it made the most horrendous noise as it started to spin the clothes. I tried to redistribute the load, but nothing stopped the noise, hence the new machine. I like the new one, though it does ‘lie’ about the time left on the program. I’ve noticed a few times that it will be counting down, then suddenly the time left would increase. Hmmm…
The other thing I’d like to get to grips with is my colleague’s throat! He obviously has a cold and he sits in the office sniffing all day long or clearing his throat in the most disgusting way imaginable. I’ve started putting on the radio on the PC and plugging myself in, or disappearing to the coffee shop just to get away from him. This is the first time in years that he’s had to share an office and I think he forgets he’s in company. Yuck!
It’s half term here for the school children and I have the rest of the week off. I plan to do some grocery shopping tomorrow, and then take some lunch with me when I visit my sister who’s off sick from work. She’s a carer and whilst she loves her job, she does find it very stressful I think. Anyway, I can think of nothing nicer than sharing food and having a good natter on a day off.
On Friday I’ll be grappling with the mould on the bedroom ceiling. It comes back every winter though wiping it with a cloth soaked in bleach tends to keep it at bay for a few months. The house is okay, but one good influx of money and I’d leave in a heartbeat. I live in hope…
Enjoy the rest of the week; I intend to :)

Sometimes these new washing machine timers deal with one cycle at a time then start again for the next one, maybe that's what it's doing Fran
Enjoy your packed lunch
@Summer - Could be the gutter, it's shared between 4 houses so not easy to investigate. It's a drag when you can't sleep but reading is quiet so I don't disturb my son in the next room.
I had a new washing machine about 6 years ago and it's amazing how quiet it is. I'm still using the old tumbler though - must be over 20 year old - but still going strong.
The mould is a bummer, but if you can reach and clean it with bleach, then it looks as if that's all you can do at the moment.
Thanks Jenny. I've met him once, at a book signing many years ago, and he was so polite.
I finished the book on Friday; it's the fastest that I've ever read a book lol. I'll have to get the sequel now.
