After a week of unrelenting sunshine, and increasing temperatures, Sunday saw some welcome rain. I like the sunshine, don’t get me wrong, however the bedrooms are maxing out at 25C which makes for a very uncomfortable night. I’ve stated before, after having a bat in the house (previous house) twice, and moths aplenty, neither of us can sleep with the windows open. If it does get too much, I’ll open my bedroom window the merest crack though I’m then ‘fretting’ about bugs in the bedroom. Seriously, in a previous house the ceiling in my son’s room was literally alive with bugs; he’d left his window open, and his bedside lamp on… Not an experience either of us wish to repeat!
The Ship’s Dog had a much-needed bath today. He didn’t smell that nice and he was looking a tad grubby. We toyed with doing it ourselves though balked at having to lift him in and out of the bath, so the groomers it was. He smells good, and despite them not fully drying him (he was getting tired) he looks great. They always do a lovely job, though he doesn’t go often due to his age. They had to carry him out as he pancaked on their shiny floor, and once home, I had to lift him out of the car as he kept crying and wouldn’t come out by himself. He’s still a heavy boy… He wolfed down his breakfast, and he’s still asleep as I type.
Whilst out, I did a little shopping at the supermarket, just a top-up shop. As I got my wallet out to pay, I realised I’d forgotten my discount card despite knowing I was coming to this store. D’oh! Not paying attention. The checkout woman overcharged me – not paying attention. It wasn’t by much, though they should be more careful.
I also bought some dog food, and dog treats. The man on the checkout was definitely not paying attention and kept talking to another customer who was waiting for an order whilst he was (barely) serving me. At the end, I put my card in the reader, typed in my security pin, and even then, he wasn’t paying me any attention, so I reached past the screen and took my receipt and I left, thinking f*ck you very much. It wasn’t until I got home that I realised he had undercharged me. Not by much, and I certainly didn’t intend doing a 10-mile round trip for his mistake. The overcharge, and subsequent undercharge evened out.
I did try and buy some wheel trims, though yet again, the staff in Halfords were singularly unhelpful so, yet again, they didn’t get my business. I do know that supermarkets employ ‘mystery’ shoppers that then report back to the supermarket their shopping experience. I feel sure we’ve had at least one of those where I work, though some have said they think this has been suspended due to Covid. Either way, Halfords would do well to employ them as their customer service, in this area at least, leaves a lot to be desired. For now, my car will have to tolerate the old wheel trims until I find somewhere that will actually help me.
On that note, I’ve checked the oil in the car, the tyres, the screen wash, the radiator water, all in preparation for a (hopefully) visit to Wales soon. I’m so looking forward to seeing family, and my friend, and I’m also hoping for a hug or two, depending on if they’re comfortable with that. I don’t mind wearing a mask if it means I get a hug. As mentioned on Jenny’s page, I live with my son, but he’s not a hugger. I recall when his Uni term ended, a fellow student hugged him, and he looked very uncomfortable. I don’t push it.
This week we have 3 viewings of the house which will seriously curtail my ability to work overtime. No worries. I’m tired anyway, and we’re supposedly getting a bonus this month. I don’t want to work too many hours as it might mean I’d lose it on paying the Student Loans people anyway; don’t want to be doing that! LOL
Enjoy the rest of the week.

I can't stand bad manners at supermarkets etc. Mind you - I don't go out anymore, so I don't get annoyed. I do hope you have a great time in Wales. I'm envious, it's my home country and I haven't been there for years.
No need for bad manners, nor unhelpful staff. How they keep their job is beyond me.
Counting the days until my trip to Wales :)
People have no work pride anymore. Customer service is a lost art, along with many people s manners.
Enjoy your visit. Ihave my fingers crossed for you all goes well. Where will you be staying?
Gracie - If we have screens here I don't know where to get them. We have to be careful because it's not our house anyway, and with it now on the market, we have to be doubly careful what we do to the place.
Know what you mean about lack of work pride. Last week, for 2 days, none of the younger staff turned up. No idea why not.
My friend has done up an old property and it doesn't have any tenants as yet, so I'm going to stay there, all alone. Bliss! I love my son, love my dog, but some time alone will be well received. I have my fingers and my toes crossed!
I always sleep with open windows with no bug bother.
I am so pleased I shop in the smaller stores with helpful staff and on first name terms with most.
