The saga with my eyes continues. I was filling in a health questionnaire prior to my appointment a week from Monday, when I noted that the hospital listed on the letter is not the one offered me over the phone. Instead of being 3 miles away, this one is almost 20 miles away. I won’t be able to drive, nobody I know lives near to give me a lift, and it would take over an hour, each way, by train at goodness knows what cost. I phoned the ‘helpline’ and found the person to be very unhelpful, stated the discrepancy, and she confirmed it’s as per the letter heading. They further stated if I don’t take the appointment, I have to start the referral process all over. I thanked her, and went over to the optician, explained what’s happened, and she made some phone calls. I’m booked in at the nearby main hospital; the hospital I was offered on the phone don’t even do eye surgeries! I know the accent here is a little tricky, however no way did I confuse the hospital names, they don’t even sound the same, and I asked if it was the hospital on the A nn road, which the woman confirmed. Somebody got their wires crossed and I’m sure it wasn’t me!
The real bugbear is, I’ve been sent to the back of the waiting list because I turned down the initial appointment, and now have to wait until freaking July. I’m not a happy camper and I’m genuinely concerned that by then, I won’t have any useful vision in that eye. To add to my concern, I was wakened Tuesday night with excruciating pain in the same eye, and Wednesday, could barely see. My eye is all pink, sensitive to light, and I feel Like I’ve been smacked in the eye. If it happens again, the optician says I must go to them and have it triaged. She wanted to do it today (Thursday) however I’m picking my son up later and wouldn’t be able to drive. I’m hoping I’ll have the surgery not long after the appointment which would be in the university holidays; I won’t need to be my son’s taxi then, that’s the only plus side that I can see in all this palaver.
In other news I did some cooking today and baked a small ham joint, nice, and a plum cake, average and a bit dry. My son has had his eye on this recipe for a while now, but I don’t think he’ll be that enamoured with it. It might be good with custard…
Yet another idiot has driven the wrong way up our street, at speed. It’s an accident waiting to happen. Whilst waiting to cross the main road, I saw a car try to get onto the wrong carriageway of the dual carriageway. There are No Entry signs, but they clearly didn’t see them, and had to swiftly reverse out due to oncoming traffic. I just stood and watched, gob-smacked. I seriously wonder how many drivers around here actually have a licence.
The sun has been out, the temperature is warming up a little, and the rigging is full of laundry. Do I small spring in the air?

Maybe these drivers don't even read english? Would not surprise me at all.
Its a lovely day today. Yesterday was cold, snow and ice. No peeking of green in the garden for me for a.bit...Theres still snow on the ground and that will be for a while.
It would be quite arduous to attend the initial hospital, and I have to take into account after the surgery, I'd have to make that same journey, alone, with only one eye to see out of. It's just not doable, and I'd have told them that on the phone if they'd got the hospital name correct. Not at all happy with them.
As for transport - quite a few hospitals have schemed for volunteer drivers to take people home, rather than use the patient ambulances. Could that help ?
StoneRoad has a good point here - phone the Volunteer Bureau and see if there are volunteer cars who would pick you up from home, wait for you to have your appointment and then drive you back home. It is certainly cheaper than buses or trains, and certainly much cheaper than taxis, so if your area has a Volunteer Bureau, it may be worth a try. If they don't, then they might be able to point you in the right direction for help.
We've had lovely mild weather here too - in fact I've got primroses and mini-daffodils out in the garden. Spring is definitely in the air - I only have to look at my lovely mating birds - magpies, blackbirds, wood pigeons and chaffinches - they are flying around together all the time. It's so lovely to see. Have a great weekend
We have that system here, however it's only for people who have a disability. The further hospital would involve walking to town, getting a bus to the next town, then a train, then another bus from the train to the hospital. I'd have to do this again for the surgery, and again for the follow-up. It really isn't an option, especially as I'll have an eye patch after the surgery and will have to take it easy for 2 weeks afterwards. Making that journey home after eye surgery isn't doable.
I'm going to mention it to my neurologist in March, which is at the same hospital as my appointment in July, and hope he can speed things along. Failing sight in one eye will only exacerbate my unsteadiness, and could potentially lead to falls and injury. Fingers crossed...
Glad you have good weather too.
Sounds like your local drivers got their licenses from a fair ground Bumper car unit.
Have a nice weekend.
