After almost a week of fine weather, plenty of sunshine, and warm temperatures, we succumbed to rain here on Thursday and decidedly cooler temperatures. It was nice while it lasted. I’ve had a week of laundry being dried outside, and no heating on. Bliss. The next week is forecast to be damp and cooler, more like March, in truth. I can’t believe it’s already March!
After many weeks in anticipation, I finally received a gift that was bought for me back in January. It was a book of poetry, and not at all expected. The person who sent it was on the same course as I was at university, and I’d stated many times that I didn’t ‘get’ poetry. In fact, it was the only module that I came close to failing and I scraped through by the skin of my teeth. Having to resit that module would have been torturous. I like the old style of poetry, odes and so on, but the modern stuff leaves me cold as so much of it reads like prose with random line breaks to (hopefully) denote it as a poem. It doesn’t work for me, though it was a nice gesture of my friend. He turns 60 this month and I know he’ll be feeling it. I sent him a card that I hope he’ll find humorous and will lighten what will be a dark day for him. Not sure how I feel about turning 60 either mind you… I guess it beats the alternative and I’m told we get a free bus pass. Woohoo. LMAO
The Ship’s Dog turned 11 this week and I know some days he feels it. He’s off his food, and sometimes stands in the doorway as if he’s not sure which room he wants to settle in. Other times he’ll ‘fight’ with me like he’s still a puppy though we never fight for long as neither of us is a spring chicken anymore. A fight usually consists of me grabbing his chew toy, saying it’s mine, and him trying to get it back, then running away when he’s grabbed it. Silly stuff really, but he likes it.
I’ve had my written confirmation for my eye consultation, and I’ve written back detailing why I cancelled the initial appointment, listed my concerns, and asked to be considered for any cancellations. I’ll also mention the cataract to the neurologist when I see him next week, as failing sight will exacerbate my balance issues, I’m sure. I’m already having trouble reading sub titles or program description on the TV, and I can’t read for long without getting a headache. The only thing that helps is to block the one eye, and just read with my good eye. July seems a long way off.
Not much else going on here though the Deckhand did have a day out at an air museum where they were doing life drawing. The day went well, though on the journey home they were stuck in traffic caused by an accident and were over an hour late getting back. There was me, sat in my car in a side street for over an hour, watching people going in and out of the chip shop and thinking if he’s much longer I’ll need to beg a student to let me into the university to use the loo! A very stressful wait and I won’t do it again. If he has another away day, he can text when he’s back, and then I’ll go and get him. Saturday he’s in class, for a change, and they’ll be drawing people in re-enactment costume. What a fun life he leads. Next week, which is starting to look busy, we have the house inspection, again. What a fun life I lead ;)
Have a good weekend, hopefully the forecast won’t be right, and we’ll have more lovely sunshine.

Turning 60, what's the problem Fran, it isd not a disease? There was a time when I thought on the eve of my BD (Will I wake up a year older?or will I wake up Dead?). Now as the oldest ever living member of my direct blood family I wonder If I will become 90.
Have a nice new week.
Yes your imbalance will be affected by your vision or lack thereof. My right eye has a pleated retina which makes the vision in that eye seem as if I'm peering through cracked glass. I never realised how many straight lines there were when you are outside - pavements, doorways, windows, masts, poles, pavement slabs etc - I felt I was walking onboard a boat in a Force 10 gale. Unfortunately I still feel like that - but after 12 years I've learned not to focus but just scan quickly which eliminates the cracked, disjointed lines. I do hope you will soon be sorted out.
Anyway - as you say - you get a free bus pass at 60 - which is great!!!
