After a hiccup, I finally had my NHS health test. Some 9 years late lol, though maybe my previous health centre in Wales didn’t run them, who knows. Mostly all is good, and my heart attack risk is low, although my blood sugar levels are borderline not good at all. I had hoped the nurse and I could discuss diet and why my levels could possibly be higher than is normal considering I rarely eat sugar in any form, but all she was able to do was point me to some websites. Normally, the check-up is done again in 5 years’ time, the hospital letter suggested 1 years’ time, however the nurse wants the test done again in 6 months’ time. I’ve downloaded some blurb to help me make dietary changes and we’ll see how it goes.
My son and I went out for a meal for my Birthday to an Asian buffet, and he paid for it as my present. Nice. We’ve been before, for his Birthday, and whilst the food was nice enough, I feel we could make better ourselves. Far too much garlic in everything, and very little sauce so it becomes quite a dry meal. We won’t go there again. We also don’t rate our local takeaway, so next time we fancy Chinese food, we’ll plan it, and simply make our own buffet. Thank you for the Birthday wishes. I had some cards, and my ex ‘Mum-in-Law’ sent an email which was nice of her.
Mostly a quiet day on the actual Birthday as my son had classes from 9am to 6pm though I made a nice lunch for myself, club sandwich, which my son doesn’t like.
I made a chocolate cake for my birthday as it’s nicer than any cake I’ve bought. I know, sugar, however we had small portions, and I’ve frozen slices in foil for a later date. It keeps nicely, and is lovely if warmed, from frozen, in the microwave. Cake will have to be an even rarer treat than it is already.
I managed to download a list of low GI foods as well as the above blurb, to help lower my blood sugar levels though I’m somewhat distraught to see that parsnips and quash are high. Man, that bites! Low GI is better for me, though I’ll still have them, just less often. Lidl make a low GI brown loaf that’s wonderful, so that’s sorted.
The weather here has been less than pleasant with high winds that blew my bin over and emptied the rubbish into the street. Thankfully it was emptied recently, and the rubbish was bagged, so it was an easy task to clean up. We’ve had about 2 inches of rain here which is nothing compared to Mid Wales – 7 inches in 48 hours. Horrendous, and I feel for them. My family don’t live in that area of Wales, and although it’s wet and windy where they are, it isn’t too bad thus far. Hoping it’ll brighten up soon; the laundry is building up, and dog walking in the rain isn’t much fun.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend, take care, keep dry and safe.

It is always nice to learn that one is not in danger of this and that happening
Remember that Starch becomes sugar when digested (I learned that in Chemi at school, we made experiments like mixing flour with saliva, then checking with some paper like Litmus paper that changed colour when sugar was there) so cut down on Chips, spuds in general and Pasta.
I think it is always possible to make things better at home (Provided we can cook) because we know exactly what we like or dislike. Chinese and Thai takeaways here are always far too salty due to oo much salt and too much normal Soysauce.
The inclement weather mentioned by Mickey in his blog did not get to me, he said it moved east in the same line as saying that Jenny lived in SE England, here we have had perfect weather for the past days with temps between 15 and 21 C and Wall to wall blue skies.
Enjoy the rest of the day and stay safe, John.
I've since found out that my Father was diabetic in his later years, and my niece is diabetic too. Maybe genetics, maybe lifestyle, who knows?
Good to hear that your surgery is on the ball and preferring checkups ever 6 months instead of 5 years.
