Since being told 3 weeks ago, that we were due a House Inspection, I’ve been walking slowly through the house trying to clean or paint over any marks left on the walls by the removal firm; nothing major, just the odd small mark here and there. It only cost me two match pots and a little time. With the inspection due Monday gone, I spent the weekend dusting, vacuuming, and putting anything away in a cupboard that might make the place look untidy; my son wouldn’t fit, nor the dog LMAO. I washed the floors too and cleaned the bathroom and kitchen to within an inch of their lives. The cooker and fridge also had a good clean, and honestly, the stainless-steel doors on the cooker were gleaming and much cleaner looking than when we moved in. The garden was swept of leaves, especially the decking as per our rental agreement, and I took down the washing line because it wasn’t there when we moved in, and I’m not sure we’re supposed to have it. I do keep a clean and tidy house by the way, however I’ve never had an official inspection before and had no idea what to expect or how nit-picking they might be.
We had to hang around all day as the agent couldn’t/wouldn’t give a specific time for the inspection. The man arrived at 2.45 with a little step ladder, introduced himself, and proceeded to check the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. He didn’t go into the garden which is where I’d secreted the dog; he thought the dog didn’t like him. He then did a quick walk through, said everything looked very clean and tidy, told us to keep up the good work and that it was appreciated, and he was gone. OMG all that work for a whirlwind check; he didn’t even check the cooker or fridge. Anyway, no more checks this year, with another due in January or February.
As soon as he left, I started to prep dinner, so my son could have a meal before he went out to a class. This is extra-curricular and a good time to catch up with friends too, so I try to accommodate this. After he left, I flopped in front of the TV. I would have had a drink, I deserved a drink ;) but didn’t in case he rang later to ask for a lift home. In some ways, I wish he would as he’s walking home at 9pm, but he likes to be independent.
This week we’re going out for lunch to an Asian buffet to ‘celebrate’ me turning 59. OMG is this something to celebrate? Lol. We can’t go on my actual birthday due to classes being reorganised due to a room-booking foul-up. I’m a tad disappointed, but it can’t be helped, and we’ll just celebrate a day early.
Still looking for work here and I confess I thought there would be more work in this area. It’s much busier here, with lots more educational facilities so I naively thought work would come more quickly. Oh well. I saw one job I could do, at a university, working in student services however the post involved tills and money, and banking, and whilst I’m honest to a fault, with my memory problems some days, it wouldn’t be a good fit.
I have my health check this week, the nurse phoned to postpone the original appointment, and I’ll check if they have my medical records yet. If so, I’ll try and get an appointment with a neurologist here in England for some issues I’m having; my one leg feels like I’ve burned it, which I haven’t, and it’s so painful some days. Nothing to see, and it doesn’t feel hot, but so painful it makes me limp whilst walking. It comes and goes…
We have a couple of sunny days forecast before rain moves in. Make the most of the sunshine if you have it.

Here we stop celebrating all except Round birthdays when we reach 50, so 60 is on next will be 75 with round and haf round up until we reach 100.
Well that was not so bad then, you did not have to stand to attention beside your bed in underclothes the way soldiers do!
Hope whatever it is with your legthat it turnes out to besomething simple and easy to cure.
Sun, if it shines be happy.
John.
You have a lot more birthdays togo before you catch up to us wrinklies Fran
I imagine the students take many of the jobs. By the way how close is the school?
Hopefully you can get an appointment quicker there than when in Wales! That was just ridiculous!
59 isn't so bad. I've got 3 1/2 years on you.. I'm still kicking it up! Sort of.. Maybe at times.. Ok maybe "kick" is an exaggeration!
Happy Birthday! :-)
John - I always celebrate, no matter how old. Maybe a special meal at home, this time a meal out, and always some form of cake. We're going to make Devil's Food Cake this year.
Mick - I know, just feel old some days lol
Gracie - The one college I'd really like to work in is about half a mile from the house, easy to walk via a cut through so not along a main road. Just need the right job. You made me laugh, thanks.
Poor you doing all that work for the inspection, but look on the bright side, you can have a couple of days off, your home is spick and span now!
It sounds like a trapped nerve, your "burning" sensation, and I do hope it's something simple like that. Good luck with the job hunting.
