Usually I’m the klutz and have dropped any number of items including glass ware. Barely a day goes by when I haven’t dropped something and I seem to have trouble some days feeling what I’m touching. I must get a check-up. Anyway, over the past few days, it’s been my son spilling things. He rang me on Friday and announced that the salt cellar flew out of the cupboard when he opened the door. It bounced off the dog, poor thing, and shattered on to the floor. Shame really, as I’d not long filled it! He cleaned it all up which was good, but I put the vacuum over in my lunch break just to be sure. This morning he shook the milk, and sprayed it all over the kitchen. So, mop and bucket out, and a good clean up before going off to work. I’d used the milk this morning and obviously hadn’t closed the lid before putting it away. My bad. Out of his view, I couldn’t help but smile; he was covered in milk, and although it was my fault, he really should check the lid before shaking.

Saturday morning I was working at our other campus. It wasn’t a bad morning, although I’ve caused a problem because I forgot to complete a field that was needed to determine the results. I’m hoping my colleague can sort it out, if he can’t, 2 people may have to resit an exam. I wasn’t popular…

On the news recently was the fact that in one weekend, over just a few hours, 4 bikers had died in road accidents in Wales; a terrible figure. Having said that; on Sunday I’d gone out shopping and on the opposite side of the 2 lane road was a very slow tractor. My lane was clear and I was driving along at 55mph minding my own business. I had to slow down no fewer than 3 times due to bikers on my side of the road, driving at me! Basically, they were overtaking cars stuck behind the tractor and were on the wrong side of the road. I gesticulated the third time I had to slow down and contemplated putting my lights on. And they wonder why so many biker deaths? That was the ‘thrill’ part – my life is so mundane, there are no thrills lol.

Another news item details how diabetes has risen 60% in the past decade. I’m not too surprised as I think people don’t know what to eat anymore. As an example: Last year butter and lard were bad for us, and many switched to cooking with vegetable oil. Now they’re saying that vegetable oil is okay unless you cook with it. Once it reaches a certain temperature, something happens to it and it’s actually bad for us. Lard and butter are better, so they say. I use light olive oil for cooking, so no worries. A while back margarine was better for us than butter. Now they’re saying that the additives in marge are bad, and that butter, if used sparingly, is better. Eggs are bad. Oh wait, eggs are okay. The scientists change their minds like the wind, and nobody knows what’s good or bad anymore. Somebody needs to sort this out!

They also state that diabetes complications are going to ruin the NHS and that it’s mostly avoidable. Well isn’t lung cancer mostly avoidable? People who partake in dangerous sports and suffer an injury – isn’t that avoidable? One could argue that many illnesses/accidents are avoidable…

A busy week for me, I’ll catch up when I can. Have a good week.
