On Thursday afternoon I had to go to our other campus to see some wannabe pirates. I’d had enough of scurvy dogs that morning so decided to anchor the ship and take a tug boat in to town. Not a bad journey in that I only waited 5 minutes for a tug. I got to the site in plenty of time to have a free coffee and biscuit, always a bonus, and set myself up ready. They came in dribs and drabs which isn’t ideal for an exam but we got there and only one failed which is excellent for recruitment.

When the last one had left, I shut everything down and hurried off for a tug home. I’d just missed one, and had to wait 20 minutes for the next one due to our services being cut. It seems to me that everything is being cut except how much we pay for these ‘services.’ I never notice the cost to us being cut, quite the opposite! We had Welsh drizzle number 4, a rubbish shelter open on one side, and persistent wasps that just wouldn’t b*gger off. I was getting quite damp, and wishing I’d taken my own lifeboat when the bus arrived.

It was pretty full and I sank gratefully into a seat. I was mortified, then disgusted, and spent the rest of the journey home quietly seething. Why? I’d been sat for a few seconds when I started to feel damp rising through my clothes! Now it may sound funny now, but I was not a happy bunny. I quickly changed seats and noted that there was a sticky mess on the floor so I’m hoping it was fizzy drink of some kind. The other option doesn’t bear thinking about! Anyway, drink or p*ss, the upshot was that all my clothes had to go straight into the washing machine. My blouse was long, so even that had to go straight into the machine. Some people are worse than animals!

I arrived home in a foul mood and found the Cabin Boy in the kitchen patiently filling pasta tubes to make cannelloni from previously cooked mince beef sauce. He topped the pasta with Monterey Jack (cheese), some salt/pepper/chilli from the grinder, got a part-bake bread, and put it in the oven to cook whilst I took a much needed shower. It was such a nice treat, him cooking the dinner, and my mood was soon dispelled. That, and a glass of wine ;)

My coat is still languishing in the bottom of the machine waiting for a dry day so that I can wash it and get it dry. It’s the second time recently that I’ve had to wash my raincoat!

Speaking of which, this weather is really starting to p*ss me off. It’s summer, albeit late summer, and the weather is the pits. It’s warm and muggy, and constant drizzle interspersed with heavy rain. Where the h*ll is the sunshine?

I’m off after today, and don’t go back to work until Monday 1st September. Fingers crossed that the weather will seriously improve. Have a great weekend.
