The wonderful Melanie (Safka) composed "Whay Have They Done To My Song Ma" and it was issued in 1971 but made little action on the charts.
The successful cover called "Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma" came form Australia's New Seekers (Eve Graham, Lyn Paul, Keith Potger, Marty Kristian, Paul Layton and Peter Doyle) who reached the Billboard top fifteen. The track is the opener on their "Keith Potger and The New Seekers" album. Keith Potger was the group's founder and a member of the original Seekers. Despite the hit single this album was not released in the U.S. and the tune didn't appear on an American album for another year with the release of "Beautiful People" (without Keith Potger) another Melanie compostion.
