XX).

++++++++
The Algarve goat is the result of crossbreeding between the Algarve Charnegais goat and the Moroccan goat (in the 19th century) and later crossbreeding with the Spanish Alpine goat (at the beginning of the 20th century).
It is predominant in the north-east and south-east of the Algarve (but also in the Alentejo).
Very resistant, muscular, strong and prolific, and with great milk production potential (1.3 to 1.6 litres/day, with quality milk: 4.5% fat content and 3.8% protein), the Algarve goat has good yields in meat production.
Fresh cheese, highly appreciated for its taste and nutritional qualities, benefits from the feed of Algarvian goats reared extensively in the highlands.
The Algarvian goat was once on the verge of extinction, but nowadays there are around 180 males and 4 600 females registered (one male covers 25 to 30 females).
