XIX) e do cruzamento posterior com a cabra alpina espanhola (no início do séc. XX). É um animal predominante no Nordeste e no Sudeste do Algarve (mas também no Alentejo). Muito resistente, musculada, forte e prolífera e com grande potencial leiteiro (1,3 a 1,6 litros/dia, com leite de qualidade: 4,5% de teor de gordura e 3,8% de proteína), a cabra algarvia tem bom rendimento na produção de carne. O queijo fresco, bastante apreciado pelo sabor e pelas qualidades nutricionais, beneficia da alimentação da cabra algarvia criada em regime extensivo na serra. A cabra algarvia esteve em vias de extinção, mas actualmente encontram-se registados cerca de 180 machos e 4600 fêmeas (um macho cobre 25 a 30 fêmeas).
