The dike that keeps Holland safe from the sea. Part of the Delta Works. On the first of February 1953 a major flood occured caused by a combination of a severe storm and high spring tide. 50 Of the 200 villagers of Battenoord, seen on the right, drowned. A total of 1836 people died that night.
