Limp vellum binding

02 Jun 2015 2 580
Made a few years ago... photographed last week. Lester Capon taught us a limp vellum binding sewn on tapes. The book has rolled leather headbands and the tapes were made of vellum as well.

The cardstock endpapers are not attached to the vellum cover in any way, the cover only folds over them. Corners made according to Jen Lindsay's article in the New Bookbinder (11/1991).

Clasps

Extended vellum tapes as clasps. I only wanted two clasps so the middle tape is cut shorter and left hidden inside the cover.

Sewn on raised cords which are attached in the recesses made in the cover boards. I'm fairly sure the Armenians didn't use plywood. veterokforbooks.tumblr.com

A loose facsimile of the 17th century Armenian binding with two leather clasps on wooden pegs. The insides of the wooden boards are covered with bright red patterned fabric on which the turn-ins are made. The linen fabric lining of the spine typically shows through the leather. veterokforbooks.tumblr.com
