This is a finishing tool made by Dimitris Koutsipetsidis, who is also a bookbinder. It is designed to hold single brass type of various sizes, and I'm a big fan of that.

and very useful. Marking gauge is apparently more familiar to woodworkers, but it's great for trimming the turn-ins.

I had been meaning to acquire a type holder for god knows how long, and then it just sort of landed upon me: I was gifted with this vintage German type holder last June, and it came with a set of type too.
