For service manuals, repair II

Finished repair. A stack of Ford service manuals were sewn together and given new, sturdy 3mm covers. Not shown in these pictures, the nice-looking part of the old cloth cover (with a stamped "Ford" text) was placed in a recess made in the new font cover.

..for a change. This one has a loose front cover, some loose and torn pages and a classic duct-taped back. It also weighs 6-7kg.

Reinforcing some of the first sections of the Bible. Thankfully most of the paper in the book is healthy and in nice condition.

As a happy surprise, the duct tape came off nicely and I believe it has actually also protected the sections from further damage. Only the back of the book was taped.

The cover board of the incunable I was working on. Naturally, the other one was of completely different size, was attached in a different way and had a different kind of blind tooled design too.

The name incunable refers to the first printed books that were made in Europe before the year 1501. Often they had hand-drawn or painted initials and sometimes illustrations. This one has handdrawn detailing in red ink for the first half of the book. I guess someone got bored after that.

From what I gather, this is a 1480's sermon book written by the Dominican friar Martin of Troppau. It is printed in Strasbourg (curiously referred to as "Argentine" in medieval Latin) on rag paper with the common bull's head + cross watermark.

An incunable I'm working on. Pictured without the wooden covers, with original cords cut off for resewing. This book had lost some of its backing material some hundred(s of) years ago, after which someone had ingeniously painted the title on.

New cover for one of the 17th ce. pamphlets, still in the process. Payhembury marbled paper, which I noticed might be a century too late but I don't think it makes much difference in this case..
