Lugano, Switzerland Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli 1499 - The church at one time belonged to a monastery which was dissolved and the church then torn down in 1848 and replaced with a hotel. So much for "progress"! From the outside, the Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli looks very unassuming, but inside is one of the most famous Renaissance frescoes in Switzerland, "Passion and Crucifixion" by Bernardino Luini. Among others are Luini's own take on "The Last Supper." The artist was a student of Lenoardo daVinci and is said to have worked with him directly.
