This is the second in a series of 3. The anhinga is beginning the swallowing process after literally beating the catfish to death. I watched for a long time as he slapped/smacked the fish against the tree trunk. Then he would stop and if the catfish moved, he would start again to smack it around. He cannot swallow the fish until it is dead. As you will see in the next 2 images, he swallows the fish whole. Amazing to see! The swamp water is not covered with algae or scum, but an aquatic plant of tiny, tiny green leaves. This heron stood perfectly still before taking one very slow step and then holding still again before taking the next step. Evidently, looking for lunch! I found these pods while traipsing through the wetlands looking for birds. No idea what it is, but it was extremely small and grew on a vine. View in large to get an idea of the details.
