Lugano is a beautiful city nestled between the Swiss and Italian Alps. In fact, you can stand in the middle of town and step into either country. The food offered is an array of both Swiss and Italian. Oh, and let's not forget the fabulous shopping!!! {:o) Thank you all for visiting and for your gracious and appreciated comments! Lugano, Gandria, Switzerland The owner of Ristorante Antico in Gandria treated us to the bruschetta, which was so delicious! The little ceramic "mug" is locally made at Gres studio. It is used to drink the local white Merlot and, yes, it is white Merlot. It took a little practice before we mastered the art of drinking the wine without wearing it! Lugano, Switzerland Just imagine walking along this main street in Lugano and having such amazing and delicious choices right at your fingertips. Oh, and lets not forget the ultra high-end shopping. Lugano, Switzerland - Madonna degli Angioli Church Altar The church, which was originally part of a Franciscan monastery, is home to Switzerland's most famous Renaissance fresco. It covers the whole wall of the nave. The "Passion and and Crucifixion of Christ" is defined by great expressiveness and vividness of the individual scenes. The whole fresco resembles a magnificent gobelin. Take some time to study it closely. On the left wall of the nave is a large fresco depicting the Last Supper and on the first of the four side altars is also a fresco, depicting the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child. Both are attributed to Luini and reflect the influence of Leonardo da Vinci. The church is located on Piazza Bernardino Luini, at the end of Via Nassa, the city's elegant shopping boulevard. The owner was an absolutely delightful gentleman who personally served our table with many delicious foods such as this perch served with a fantastic local white Merlot and a dessert of "nuts ice cream" with Nocino, a local brandy. Lugano, Switzerland This delikatessen offered the most fantastic looking foods. Not only the meats, but delicious salads, sandwiches, and hot foods.
