as we started crossing the ice road, a mist came in and it became even MORE fantastical - how much more magical beauty can I take? This road over Storsjön (the Great Lake) is open in the winter and makes the journey much faster than the half hour ferry you need in the warmer months

Cars have to drive at 30 kph, at least 50m apart, and you cannot stop on the ice road

Despite the frozen lake being strong enough to land a Boeing on, trucks are not allowed to use it (Swedish common sense) so they still have a ferry for bigger vehicles
