This wonderful species of flower grows only in the driest and harshest part of inland Australia. This was in red sand in the middle of the desert, They are known as Sturt Desert Pea, and they defy attempts to grow them in suburban gardens! They are Swainsonia Formosa, botanically.

An Australian native, the banksia genus has more than a hundred forms, ranging from ground covers, to tall trees. They all grow spectacular cones or flowers...in a huge range of colours and sizes. Birds adore the cones for their seeds. I fell in love with these on their tall tree! Visits and comments are so very appreciated!

Swainsona formosa, Sturt's Desert Pea, is one of Australia's best known wildflowers. It is native to the hot, remote and arid regions of central and north-western Australia, growing in dry sand and rock. They are almost impossible to cultivate in a domestic garden. This is in the remote desert of Western Australia.
