Early on our river cruise we had passed the "Emmylou" at her moorings (PiP 1). Not long afterward she came past us, heading up the river under full steam (PiP 2).

The Murray is Australia's major inland river and was once the main inland freight route, using paddle steamers - now operating for tourists. This is the wharf at Echuca, the main port for northern Victoria, with the height of the wharf reflecting the need to continue operating at varying river levels (see also PiP). The paddle steamers had to be relatively small with shallow draft, to allow operation during drought (and even then many became stranded until rivers again rose). Yes, there are benches on the top deck of the wharf and on the paddle steamer. Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to come.

This seemed an appropriate image to follow that of the silo art featuring cart horses. Taken at the tourist village part of Echuca, where we were holding our National Muster of the Renault 4CV Register of Australia.
