Fossils

Whenever I'm at Mannum in South Australia, I'm always fascinated at the thick layer of fossils mixed in the rocks in the roadside cuttings. A little searching on the internet tells me that it is "a fossil-rich tertiary sandy limestone of some 15 to 20 million years of age. This limestone is part of what is known as the Mannum Formation: coral engendered limestone, crowded with the remains of urchins, shells and other marine fossils." That's a pretty good description.
Lord Howe peaks

Lord Howe Island sits 600km east of Australia in the Tasman Sea. Some 6.5 million years ago, the island was an active volcano, now these residual peaks dominate the landscape. Mt Lidgbird (L) is 777M and Mt Gower (R) is 875M. Here's a suitable (and slightly different) musical link. Best viewed large. HFF, everyone.

Rock Ripples

On the walkway to the Quarry Point beach, an informative sign advises that these rippled and stratified rocks were laid down under a shallow sea, about 450 million years ago. They have been exposed by erosion and past quarrying.
*Edit* I now have added a note with a close-up shot of the rock strata.
Explored.
