The massive Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River is the largest hydroelectric power generator in the world, though not without a variety of negative issues. Best viewed large.

We were in China for their summer holidays, and this was taken on a weekend, so picnic areas were popular.

Heading down the Yangtze River through the Three Gorges, apart from the impressive landscape we were surprised by the amount of shipping. The Three Gorges Dam has raised the river level substantially, making the channel much wider than before it was built - and the "high water" mark is very visible on the rock faces.
