The ocean seen from "Pig and Whistle" lookout, that name deriving from the sounds coming from the the old coastal shipping carrying pigs (see PiP for more information).
Wishing everyone a vey Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend to follow.

Tathra Wharf is the only surviving wharf and building combination on the eastern seaboard of Australia from the period of the coastal shipping trade, commencing in the 1860s. The double storey building was added in 1907 and the last coastal steamer to collect freight was in 1954. Later came moves to demolish the wharf, which were opposed by the local community and the wharf was restored in the 1980s, finally being Heritage Listed. Further maintenance work was being done when I took this image.
For the first Friday of the New Year, I'd like to wish all my ipernity friends a very Happy Fence Friday, a great weekend and through 2023.

Back at the historic Tathra wharf. I suspect that, what is now a walkway with stairs was once a cattle loading ramp.
I felt this needed a musical link. Definitely needs to be viewed large. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone.

Until the mid-20th century, poor roads along the coast meant that most freight was carried by coastal steamers. The heritage-listed Tathra wharf dates from the mid 1800s and is the only remaining coastal steamer wharf in NSW.
To put this in its setting, my previous two images were taken on either side of the wharf. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone.

A very pleasant calm day at Tathra Head. Keen-eyed ship spotters may care to look for the ship. :-)
Explored.
