Falling flowers

06 May 2021 40 40 354
Heavy rain over the past few days (about 150mm) with some wind has damaged many of the flowers on the camellias, leaving a carpet of petals. HFF and best wishes for the weekend, everyone.

For Mothers' Day

09 May 2020 37 42 346
For Mothers' Day here, I'd like to share this portrait of my lovely wife, Pauline. Many of you have sent kind wishes concerning her health issues. Since earlier this year she has had some serious medical complications which have prevented further treatment, but those now seem resolved. I'm very glad to advise that, following a teleconference with her oncologist a few days ago, her treatment is likely to resume next week.

Opening soon

I can remember when this place was always busy . Now, although it looks derelict - I'd like to believe the sign in the window. :-) Best viewed large. For a musical link, you might care to try this. Explored.

A tiny fence

See the inset note for a wider look at the rest of this craftwork creation. It's a tribute to the general honesty of people there that these handmade stuffed toys could be left unattended in the open for over a week! HFF. See my Jumpers and Jazz" album " for the story on these "tree jumpers".

Along the street

I have posted just a small sample of the craft work on display , as the view up this street shows! See my "Jumpers and Jazz" album for the story on these "tree jumpers".

A winning tree jumper

This won the "Open Artistic" section and was entitled "Lest we forget". See my "Jumpers and Jazz" album for the story on these "tree jumpers". Explored

Finishing touches

08 Aug 2015 4 6 847
My cousin applying the finishing touches to a "tree jumper" created for an annual festival held at Warwick in Queensland, called "Jumpers and Jazz". To explain that, I'm putting together an album with related images (some in notes above and others to come). Taken at dawn, before the streets became crowded.

How's Your Headache?

A field of poppies....no, not the well known red ones ... these are opium poppies. And they're being grown legally! Tasmania is one of the few places to grow opium for medicinal purposes, to be made into medical drugs such as morphine and its derivatives: including codeine for aches and pains. So, if you celebrated New Year too enthusiastically, these may be relevant. :) Don't try going through the surrounding fence though! (see note).

Tasmanian Native-hen

These flightless birds are apparently quite common in Tasmania. This one was near the Coal River.

What a Goose!

Taken on the Coal River at Richmond, Tasmania. This white goose apparently had adopted the duck and its ducklings and was acting as 'guardian' for them. SMC Pentax M 1:1.4 50mm
