Black Kites were common while far inland, usually circling in groups over some food source. More images in the PiPs. Despite the name, these seem to be mainly a russet colour. They have a wingspan of about 52cm.

Found across most of Australia, it was fairly common while inland to see circling flocks of Black Kites, such as this. They do this near food sources, such as carrion. Adult Black Kites have a wingspan of about 43 cm.
