Not so fast! # 3 of sequence

20 Aug 2013 15 17 807
Overcoming its surprise, the larger galah tries to stand its ground against the rainbow lorikeet. But it's game, set and match when a moment later a second lorikeet arrives (see Shot #4).

Out of there! #2 of sequence

Contrary to appearances, the galah is not attacking the rainbow lorikeet, just the opposite. The lorikeet has dived in at high speed, making the galah leap backwards from the feeder. Lorikeets are often very aggressive when food is involved.

One of a family of galahs that regularly come to our bird feeder. This one was kindly posing for the camera until, to its surprise and mine, a hungry rainbow lorikeet arrived (next shot).

The long-tailed parrots come in a spectrum of varieties. This particular version is found in the Eyre Peninsula area. An old shot, copied across from the other site.

Red Wattlebird

Fairly common across southern Australia, the name comes from the red wattles (akin to ornamental ears). They love flowering trees.
